Mid-Atlantic Packaging

Dover, DE • On-site

Job description

Position: Business Development & Marketing Specialist
Company:
Mid-Atlantic Packaging (MAP)
Department: Sales
Location: Hybrid — Dover, DE office 3-4 days/week + 1-2 days/week territory travel
Territories: Two openings — one covering PA & NJ, one covering MD & VA
Reports to: CEO / Sales Leadership
Experience: 3+ years of job experience or relevant college coursework/degree

About the Role
Mid-Atlantic Packaging is looking for two Business Development & Marketing Specialists to grow our footprint across the Mid-Atlantic region. This is a hybrid role: you'll be based out of our Dover, DE office most of the week, with 1-2 days on the road in your territory for in-person consults and new business development. You'll manage and grow a book of existing accounts while actively prospecting new business, working directly with boutique owners, e-commerce brands, and independent retailers who rely on MAP for their packaging needs.
This role sits at the intersection of sales, marketing, and operations. You'll consult with customers on product branding and consumer packaging design, advise on retail and e-commerce packaging strategy, speak knowledgeably about sustainability initiatives, and manage projects from concept through delivery. It's a rare opportunity to get hands-on, real-world experience across the full commercial function — sales, marketing, ops, and leadership — inside a growing, second-generation family business.
Key Responsibilities (Day-to-Day)
Account Management & Growth
  • Own and service a portfolio of existing customer accounts, serving as their primary point of contact and trusted packaging advisor
  • Identify upsell and expansion opportunities within current accounts
  • Travel throughout your assigned territory (PA/NJ or MD/VA) 1-2 days a week for in-person consults, account visits, and relationship-building; remaining days based in the Dover, DE office
New Business Development
  • Prospect and develop new leads within your territory across boutique retail, e-commerce, and independent business segments
  • Build and manage a pipeline from first contact through close
  • Represent MAP at in-person meetings, walk-ins, and local networking opportunities to expand market share
Consulting & Project Management
  • Advise customers on product branding and consumer packaging design tailored to their brand and shelf presence
  • Guide customers through retail marketing and e-commerce packaging decisions, including unboxing experience and sustainability options
  • Manage customer projects end-to-end — from initial concept, through samples and approvals, to final delivery
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with MAP's production, purchasing, and customer service teams to ensure projects run smoothly and commitments are kept
  • Bring market and customer feedback back to leadership to inform product and service offerings

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of job experience or relevant college coursework/degree in business, marketing, account management, business development, or a related field
  • Comfortable and energized by regular in-person travel within an assigned territory (1-2 days/week)
  • Strong relationship-building and consultative selling skills — this is a “build trust first” role, not a transactional one
  • Ability to manage multiple customer projects simultaneously, with strong follow-through and attention to detail
  • Self-starter who can work independently in the field while staying connected to a home office team
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred
  • Background or interest in packaging, product branding, or consumer packaging design
  • Familiarity with e-commerce brand needs (unboxing experience, DTC packaging trends)
  • Marketing fundamentals — retail marketing, brand positioning, or sustainability packaging trends
  • Entrepreneurial mindset — someone who wants growth and ownership, not just a routine

What We Offer

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive base salary + performance-based commission/bonus structure
  • Mileage/travel reimbursement for territory work
  • Hybrid flexibility — field-based with Dover, DE HQ support
  • Direct mentorship and visibility with company leadership, including the CEO
  • Real cross-functional exposure: sales, marketing, operations, and project management — not a siloed role
  • Growth path within a growing, founder-led company actively expanding its direct-sourcing and market presence
  • Standard benefits — paid holidays and PTO, life insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, Aflac supplemental coverage, employee assistance and discount program
