Job Summary:

The Hedging & Position Optimization Desk is responsible for developing, executing, and optimizing hedging strategies that mitigate market risk while maximizing portfolio performance. This role supports Fuels Marketing in a commercial, trading, and risk management capacity by analyzing market exposures, performing hedging actions, and monitoring positions across physical and financial markets. The successful candidate will combine strong analytical capabilities, market knowledge, and forecasting skills to optimize portfolio risk, improve profitability, and ensure compliance with company risk policies.

Job Description:

  • Develop and execute hedging strategies to manage commodity risk related to market and volume changes and volatility.
  • Work closely with sales and operations to balance hedge exposure and hedge P&L against customer strategy and physical margins.
  • Monitor market conditions and execute adjustments to hedge positions.
  • Evaluate hedge effectiveness and trends and identify opportunities to improve.
  • Implement dynamic hedging and portfolio optimization strategies based on current, past and future hedge expectations.
  • Monitor daily trading positions and portfolio exposures, forecast changes based on seasonality, holidays, weather, new or lost business, terminal outages or changes, geopolitical changes and other variables.
  • Analyze open positions and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze market fundamentals, technical indicators, and macroeconomic developments.
  • Monitor volatility, liquidity, and pricing trends.
  • Produce market intelligence reports and trading recommendations.
  • Identify emerging risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management to ensure accurate position after month end rolls.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce transaction costs and improve hedge efficiency.
  • Optimize trading and hedging activities across multiple products and delivery periods.
  • Analyze basis risk and manage floating basis deals at third party supply locations.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly exposure reports.
  • Develop dashboards and performance metrics for management.
  • Reconcile lags and inconsistent data or missing BOLs with Business Ops team.
  • Present hedge performance, P&L attribution, and optimization recommendations.
  • Ensure positions remain within approved risk limits and trading mandates.
  • Reconcile physical and financial positions across multiple markets, business units and strategies.

Additional Job Description:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Business, or a related discipline preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in trading, hedging, risk management, portfolio optimization, or commodity markets.
  • Strong understanding of futures
  • Experience with portfolio risk analytics and exposure management.
  • Excel skills with proficiency in analytical tools
  • Experience with trading and risk management systems (Right Angle, Fidessa, Marketview)
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in commodity, energy and financial markets preferred
  • Knowledge of optimization models, forecasting techniques, and quantitative risk methodologies preferred

Pay Range:

$118,300.00 - $177,400.00

The pay range for this position is outlined above. The final amount offered at the start of employment is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience level, knowledge, skills, abilities and geographic location, and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance and market factors.
