Job Summary and Responsibilities

Join the esteemed team at Chandler Regional Hospital and Medical Center at Dignity Health and a member of CommonSpirit Health, as we seek a highly skilled and ambitious Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our thriving Cardiovascular Division.

  • This is a robust CommonSpirit Health cardiovascular program with high surgical volumes, strong cardiology alignment, and established market presence. This role is needed because of Program growth and strategic expansion of advanced cardiac and aortic services.
  • Growing high-volume surgical program with opportunity for clinical leadership and market development.
  • High inpatient and outpatient demand. Outpatient wait time: 2-3 weeks.
  • Established referral network of 50+ Cardiologists. Immediate volume available.
  • Patient Population: Adult cardiac and aortic surgery.
  • Projected Surgical Volume: Current: >500 cases annually; Projected growth: approximately 700 cases.
  • Clinical Mix: Outpatient: 60% ; Inpatient: 40% ; Consults: 20-30 per week.
  • Typical Weekly Schedule: Clinic: 1 day per week; OR / Hospital: 4 days per week; Hours: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM; 5-day workweek; Weekend coverage rotated among surgeons.
  • Procedures: CABG; Complex valve repair and replacement; TAVR (multidisciplinary structural heart program); Open and complex aortic surgery (root, ascending, arch, dissections); ECMO cannulation and management; Advanced mechanical circulatory support.
  • Call Structure: 1:3 call rotation (every third day and weekend).

Job Requirements
  • Training: MD or DO (IMG considered)
  • Residency/Fellowship: Accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery training
  • Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible (ABTS)
  • State License: Arizona (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience Level: Minimum 5 years post-training preferred

Required Technical Skills:
Broad adult cardiothoracic expertise including:

  • CABG (on- and off-pump)
  • Complex valvular surgery (repair and replacement)
  • TAVR participation within heart team model
  • Aortic surgery (ascending, arch, root replacement, acute dissection management)
  • ECMO (initiation) and partner in management
  • Impella 5.0 and advanced mechanical circulatory support
  • Trauma-related cardiac support
  • Hybrid procedures and multidisciplinary structural heart collaboration welcomed

Dignity Health Medical Group (DHMG) employs approximately 350 providers and 850 support staff who cover a wide variety of specialties. The medical group has had tremendous success over the past few years and now provides more than 73 sub-specialty services. The physicians and APPs provide clinical services in their areas of specialty and many serve in pivotal academic research and leadership roles. DHMG is also heavily involved in preparing tomorrow's healthcare providers. Clinical services are complemented with translational and bench research to augment medical education for residents and students.
