NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Marine Craft Mechanic to support maintenance, repair, overhaul, and operational readiness of military and commercial marine craft in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This position supports mission-critical vessel operations through preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of propulsion and marine support systems.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience maintaining small boats, support craft, outboard and inboard engines, and marine propulsion systems while working safely in waterfront and shipyard environments.
Position Overview
The Marine Craft Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on military and commercial marine vessels, trailers, personal watercraft, and marine propulsion systems. This role requires strong troubleshooting abilities, mechanical expertise, and the ability to independently diagnose and repair complex marine systems while ensuring operational readiness.
This position supports vessel maintenance activities in accordance with OEM recommendations, government standards, and established maintenance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Vessel Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, and inspection of military and commercial marine craft.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on:
    • Small boats
    • Surface support craft
    • Personal watercraft
    • Trailers and associated support equipment
  • Inspect, service, and maintain both outboard and inboard engines.
  • Support launch, recovery, and vessel transport operations.
Mechanical & Propulsion Systems Support
  • Troubleshoot and repair:
    • Marine propulsion systems
    • Steering systems
    • Fuel systems
    • Cooling systems
    • Electrical systems
  • Diagnose operational deficiencies and perform corrective repairs.
  • Replace defective components and restore equipment to operational status.
  • Perform routine testing and inspections to verify proper system operation.
Preventative Maintenance
  • Execute preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM maintenance schedules.
  • Review technical manuals and maintenance procedures to ensure proper work execution.
  • Maintain equipment readiness and support lifecycle maintenance requirements.
  • Support surge maintenance and operational readiness efforts.
Documentation & Record Management
  • Document maintenance actions, inspections, repairs, and testing activities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment histories.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance reporting requirements.
Safety & Operational Support
  • Maintain safe work practices in accordance with company and government safety requirements.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of maintenance workspaces.
  • Properly utilize tools, equipment, and PPE during maintenance operations.
  • Support deployment, training, and contingency maintenance requirements.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Ability to obtain installation access credentials.
  • Must have an active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining marine craft or marine vessel systems.
  • Experience working with:
    • Outboard engines
    • Inboard engines
    • Marine propulsion systems
    • Marine support equipment
  • Knowledge of:
    • Fuel systems
    • Cooling systems
    • Steering systems
    • Marine electrical systems
  • Experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret OEM technical manuals and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Military or government vessel maintenance experience.
  • Experience supporting Naval Special Warfare, U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, or commercial vessel operations.
  • OEM marine engine certifications.
  • Small craft maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
  • Trailer maintenance and recovery equipment experience.

Work Environment
  • Waterfront, marina, shipyard, and military installation environments.
  • Exposure to:
    • Marine weather conditions
    • Noise
    • Fuels and lubricants
    • Mechanical equipment
    • Outdoor working conditions
  • Work performed aboard vessels, docks, ramps, piers, and maintenance facilities.
  • Frequent interaction with maintenance teams, operators, and government personnel.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to board vessels and work on floating or fixed waterfront structures.
  • Ability to climb ladders and navigate vessel compartments safely.
  • Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Must be capable of safely wearing required PPE.
