A Marine Insulator installs and repairs insulation on ships, boats, and other marine vessels to regulate temperature, prevent condensation, and reduce noise. This role requires measuring, cutting, and securing insulation, often in confined spaces. Marine Insulators help improve energy efficiency, protect equipment, and ensure crew comfort in harsh marine environments.
A typical workday for a Marine Insulator often involves reading blueprints or specifications to determine insulation requirements, measuring and cutting insulation materials, and installing them on pipes, ducts, bulkheads, or equipment aboard ships or in shipyards. You will work closely with other tradespeople, such as welders and pipefitters, and must coordinate tasks to ensure efficient project completion. The role can include both indoor and outdoor tasks, sometimes in confined or elevated spaces, and requires strict adherence to safety protocols.
