Terrestris Global Solutions is seeking experienced Tactical Small Craft Training Instructors to support Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES), 4th Marine Division, 4th Amphibian Assault Battalion Littoral Craft Company operations at USMC Reserve Training Centers in Tampa, Florida and Galveston, Texas.

So, what will the Tactical Small Craft Training Instructors at Terrestris do?

  • The Tactical Small Craft Training Instructors will provide tactical small craft instruction and operational support to U.S. Marine Corps Reserve personnel in both classroom and maritime training environments. Responsibilities include training Marines on tactical boat operations, navigation, weapons employment, maintenance procedures, casualty control, and maritime safety while operating vessels such as the MMRC-A and Expeditionary Littoral Craft (ELC). Instructors will also evaluate crew proficiency, support training planning and readiness efforts, conduct live-fire and underway training evolutions, and ensure safe execution of riverine and coastal maritime operations in support of MARFORRES mission requirements.

What does a typical day look like for a Tactical Small Craft Training Instructor?

You will:

  • Conduct classroom and underway instruction on tactical small boat operations and maritime tactics.
  • Train Marines on preventive and corrective maintenance procedures for tactical small craft systems.
  • Provide instruction on:
    • Navigation systems
    • Communications systems
    • Hull Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) systems
    • Weapons systems and live-fire operations
    • Tactical boat formations and maneuvers
    • Casualty control procedures
    • Docking, towing, anchoring, and hoisting operations
  • Serve as a Range Safety Officer (RSO) and Line Coach during live-fire maritime training evolutions.
    • Evaluate individual and crew proficiency using USMC training standards and performance evaluation checklists.
    • Develop and update training materials, exams, qualification boards, grading sheets, and supplemental instructional content.
    • Assist with training management, training plans, and operational readiness assessments.
    • Support maintenance and sustainment cycles for craft, equipment, and flotation devices.
    • Participate in training exercises, planning conferences, and working groups.
    • Provide monthly updates and annual training plans to Battalion leadership.
    • Maintain professional instructional standards and ensure safe training operations at all times.

    What qualifications do you look for?

    • Authorization to permanently work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
    • Fluent in English
    • Active state driver's license
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
    • Ability to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Ability to pass federal background screening and high-risk training medical evaluations
    • Minimum of 8 years documented tactical small boat experience in maritime environments
    • Prior military or federal government small boat operator qualifications required
    • Preferred backgrounds include U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, or federal maritime agencies
    • Experience with vessels ranging from 24'36' in length
    • Knowledge of:

    o Maritime navigation

    o Tactical boat operations

    o Military planning and decision-making processes (BAMCIS)

    o Patrol coordination

    o Mission planning and debriefing

    • Ability to understand technical drawings and schematics
    • Must possess at least one formal instructor qualification or certification, such as:

    o Navy NEC 9502 / 805A Instructor

    o Navy NEC 9518 / A12A Professional Development Instructor

    o Journeyman Instructor Training (JIT)

    o Instruction Delivery Continuum (IDC)

    o Equivalent military or civilian instructional certification

    • Must qualify as Water Survival Intermediate (Second Class Swimmer equivalent)

    We will be extra impressed if you have:

    • USN, USMC, or USCG Tactical Boat Captain or Coxswain qualifications
    • U.S. Coast Guard OUPV or Captain's License
    • Experience developing military training standards and curriculum
    • Experience evaluating military small boat crews and operations
    • Experience conducting tactical maritime training in coastal and riverine environments
    • Previous experience assessing training facilities and operational readiness
    • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills

    Travel Requirements:

    Occasional travel may be required to:

    • MCAS Cherry Point, NC
    • Stennis Space Center, MS
    • Fort Knox, KY
    • Additional military training locations along the Gulf Coast and East Coast

    Schedule:

    • Standard schedule: MondayFriday, 7:00 AM 4:00 PM
    • Training frequently occurs during drill weekends, annual training periods, and non-standard hours
    • Hands-on training evolutions typically range from 812 hours per day
