Job description

Quality Assurance Inspector – Coatings & Testing

Position Summary

Responsible for developing, scheduling, and tracking testsand inspections; inspecting in-process and final craft work; and ensuringdocumentation aligns with test and inspection plans per Quality Departmentstandards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developand administer test/inspection plans per quality and contract requirements(e.g., NAVSEA, USCG, classification societies).
  • Coordinatewith supervision, crafts, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensureall inspections meet contract specs before final regulatory sign-off.
  • Monitorworkmanship for compliance with applicable standards and shipbuildingpractices.
  • Ensurecalibration of gauges/instruments.
  • Reportdeficiencies via IDRs, QDRs, and NCS per QMS.
  • Supportdevelopment of test memos and process control procedures.
  • Trainsupervisors and test directors on inspection requirements.
  • Verifysubcontractor qualifications and QA submittals.
  • Reviewexternal QA requirements to ensure compliance without exceeding contractscope.
  • Ensureblasting and coating activities meet regulatory, code, and manufacturerstandards.
  • Confirmemployee certifications and competency for assigned tasks.
  • Performrandom material compliance checks.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • 2+years of marine coatings inspection experience

Required Certifications:

  • NACEor SSPC Coatings Inspector (Level 1+ preferred)
  • NBPICertification (for US Navy projects)
  • ValidDriver’s License

Required Skills:

  • Proficientwith SSPC/NACE standards and marine inspection tools
  • Strongknowledge of ship repair, class society surveying, and inspectionpractices
  • Abilityto read/interpret complex contracts, specs, and drawings
  • Excellentcommunication, planning, and documentation skills
  • Proficientin MS Office and QA databases
  • Strongcustomer service and conflict resolution abilities

Physical & Work Environment

  • Shipyardsetting with exposure to noise, weather, confined spaces, and productionareas
  • Frequentwalking, climbing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs)
