Job description
Think Tank, Inc. is a company focused on scientific research and analysis, and they are seeking a Geospatial Analysis Data Science Support professional. The role involves integrating and analyzing spatial datasets, contributing to fish life cycle models, and processing data for environmental assessments.
Responsibilities:
• Integrate spatial and remotely sensed datasets across freshwater, estuarine, and nearshore marine habitats using advanced GIS analysis.
• Compute spatial indices from large datasets (e.g., prey availability, predator abundance, habitat conditions) for use in assessment tools.
• Contribute to incorporation of spatial datasets and indices into fish life cycle models used to evaluate management scenarios.
• Lead data processing and visualization; share compiled data, workflow protocols, and research products.
• Collect fish and environmental data in the field (harsh conditions; may involve driving vehicles/boats/trailers and occasional ship-survey assistance).
• Write reports, contribute to journal manuscripts, and present results at regional meetings and scientific conferences, as needed.
• Datasets produced by geospatial analysis stored in an accessible, organized way (e.g., interactive data dashboards backed by code repositories).
• Reproducible workflows documented in written reports and code repositories.
• Written status reports and other ad hoc communications as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university with a major related to the task order, with emphasis in fisheries, ecology, natural sciences, mathematics, statistics, oceanography, or hydrology.
• Experience: Three (3) or more years of experience related to the task order, including familiarity with the species and habitats managed by NOAA Fisheries in the West Coast region.
• Valid U.S. driver's license - required and maintained throughout the period of performance.
• Public trust suitability; background investigation cleared prior to beginning performance.
• Government-required training to be completed within 5 business days of start: NOAA IT Security, NOAA Safety, Sexual Assault/Sexual Harassment Prevention & Response (NAM 1330-52.222-70(b)(6)), and Records Management 101.
• Datasets produced by geospatial analysis stored in an accessible, organized way (e.g., interactive data dashboards backed by code repositories).
• Reproducible workflows documented in written reports and code repositories.
• Written status reports and other ad hoc communications as needed.
• Strong background using GIS (ArcPro, QGIS, etc.) to collate and analyze large spatial datasets.
• Strong quantitative skills including familiarity with modeling and data analysis; familiarity with software such as R, GitHub or GIS, and with open-science concepts.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; experience writing reports and publishing peer-reviewed articles.
• Ability to manage workload, stay organized, and produce high-quality work efficiently; able to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred:
• Advanced degree in a related field - may substitute for two (MS) or four (PhD) years of experience.
