Job Title: Marine Coating Applicator / CAS Certified Painter
Job Purpose and Position Overview: Snow & Company is seeking talented and skilled Marine Coating Applicator / CAS Certified Painter to join our team! We’re currently involved in some interesting, high-impact projects, including the construction of cutting-edge electric tugboats, and an 8-year contract to build advanced workboats for the US Navy. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare steel surfaces in accordance with AMPP/SSPC and project specifications
- Apply marine protective coating systems to NAVSEA and manufacturer specifications
- Operate and maintain spray equipment safely and efficiently
- Perform work that meets required quality standards and production schedules
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
- Work effectively with production and quality personnel to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Follow all shipyard safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE including respirators, fall protection, and fire-resistant clothing.
- Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions as necessary
- Document work performed and complete required job paperwork
Essential Skills (Required):
- Current Certified Applications Specialist (CAS) certification
OR
- Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience applying marine or industrial protective coating systems
- Experience that meets the eligibility requirements to obtain CAS certification
- Strong working knowledge of AMPP/SSPC surface preparation and coating application standards
- Extensive experience spraying epoxy, zinc-rich, urethane, and other high-performance protective coating systems
- Proficient with airless, conventional, and plural-component spray equipment
- Ability to read and interpret coating specifications, manufacture technical data sheets, and quality requirements
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with NAVSEA coating and preservation standards
- Experience in shipbuilding or heavy industrial new construction
- Familiarity with dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, environmental monitoring, and coating quality requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Physical and Environmental Demands:
The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:
- The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders
- Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks
- Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
- Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation
- The ability to enter and work in confined spaces, such as manholes
- The ability to work at heights
- Frequent use of a respirator
- Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
- Regular exposure to noise from machinery and equipment
Pay and Benefits:
- $34 - $37 / hour DOE
- Full time, overtime non-exempt position
