Job description

Marina Yard Hand
Cape Ann Marina | Gloucester, Massachusetts
Cape Ann Marina is a family-owned and operated marina, boatyard, and hospitality business located along the Annisquam River in Gloucester, Massachusetts. With 275 slips and an upland boatyard capable of accommodating more than 500 boats for year-round wet and dry storage, we are one of the largest full-service marinas on the North Shore.
Our team provides a wide range of marina and boatyard services, including boat storage, hauling, launching, maintenance, fueling, pump-out services, and repowering with some of the leading outboard brands in the industry. Our facility can accommodate boats up to 125 feet. We believe our success comes from our people. Teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to learning are at the heart of how we operate. We invest in our employees and encourage them to develop new skills, take on responsibility, and grow within our family of businesses.
About the Position
This is a full time (M-F) year round position. We are looking for a dependable, motivated Yard Hand to join our marina and boatyard team. This is a hands-on position that plays an important role in the daily operation of our boatyard. You will work closely with the Yard Manager and other members of the team to safely move, launch, haul, block, wash, and maintain boats while helping keep the yard organized, clean, and operating efficiently.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in doing things the right way, works well with others, and is eager to learn. Marina experience is helpful, but a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and a team-first attitude are just as important.
What You'll Do
  • Assist with hauling, blocking, launching, and moving boats throughout the marina and boatyard
  • Safely operate and learn to operate equipment such as Travelifts, hydraulic trailers, forklifts, yard carts, wagons, and other marina equipment
  • Work closely with the Yard Manager and fellow team members to complete daily boatyard operations
  • Assist with pressure washing and general boatyard maintenance
  • Assist with deconstructing docks and building new docks
  • Help maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the marina
  • Assist with grounds keeping and general property maintenance as needed
  • Support other departments and team members when necessary
  • Follow daily priorities and adapt to changing needs in a busy, seasonal marina environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Yard Manager or supervisor
What We're Looking For
  • A dependable, hardworking individual who takes pride in their work
  • A positive attitude and willingness to be part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and equipment
  • Previous marina or boatyard experience is preferred, but not required
  • Forklift or heavy equipment experience is a plus
  • Basic boat handling experience is a plus
  • Basic carpentry and working with power tools a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and work around boats and equipment
  • Ability to work in confined or tight spaces when necessary
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work additional hours, including overtime and weekends, when business needs require
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Safety amp; Professional Standards
Safety is a priority at Cape Ann Marina. Every team member is expected to:
  • Follow all company safety policies, training, procedures, and protocols
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, life jackets, and other equipment as appropriate
  • Operate machinery and equipment responsibly and only when properly trained and authorized
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, spills, equipment issues, and near misses
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Look out for the safety of fellow team members, customers, and guests
  • Treat company property, customer boats, equipment, and facilities with care and respect
What Makes a Great Cape Ann Marina Team Member?
We are looking for people who:
  • Work as a team and are willing to lend a hand when a teammate needs help
  • Show up ready to work and take pride in accomplishing a job well
  • Treat people with respect and maintain a professional, positive attitude
  • Take initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done
  • Communicate clearly with teammates, managers, and customers
  • Are willing to learn and take advantage of opportunities to develop new skills
  • Accept feedback and use it as an opportunity to improve
  • Stay flexible and adapt when priorities change
  • Take ownership of their responsibilities and follow through
  • Represent Cape Ann Marina professionally in everything they do
Grow With Us
At Cape Ann Marina, we want our employees to build more than just a job—we want them to develop skills and create opportunities for themselves.
Whether you already have experience in the marine industry or are looking to get your foot in the door, this position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and develop hands-on skills in boat handling, yard operations, equipment operation, and marina services.
If you're dependable, motivated, enjoy working with your hands, and want to be part of a team that takes pride in what we do, we'd like to hear from you.
