Position: GIS Technician III – Distribution

Location: Naperville, IL 60563 [Hybrid (Monday–Thursday Onsite, Friday Remote)]

Job Summary

Nicor Gas is seeking an experienced GIS Technician III to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of GIS data for utility distribution systems. This senior-level role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of GIS databases, performing advanced spatial analysis, supporting engineering and operations teams, and mentoring junior GIS technicians.

The ideal candidate will have 10–15 years of GIS experience, preferably within the utility or energy industry, along with strong expertise in ArcGIS, spatial databases, and utility mapping.

Key Responsibilities

· Maintain and optimize GIS databases for utility distribution systems.

· Create, update, and validate GIS maps, drawings, and as-built records.

· Perform advanced spatial analysis to support distribution planning, asset management, and outage management.

· Oversee GIS data collection, field updates, and quality assurance activities.

· Collaborate with engineering, operations, and other business units to integrate GIS data with enterprise systems.

· Generate maps, reports, and GIS deliverables for operational and regulatory needs.

· Maintain GIS documentation, metadata, and data standards.

· Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to junior GIS staff.

· Support GIS software upgrades, system maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with company standards.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, GIS, or a related field.
