Job description

Payroll Administrator I
Location:
In-Office, Chesapeake, VA
Pay: $24-$26 (Based on experience)
Map Communications Inc. is looking for a Payroll Administrator I to join our Chesapeake office! As a Payroll Administrator I, you will manage the full employee lifecycle, serving as a key point of contact from onboarding through off boarding for our Canadian employees. You will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of employee data, handling all status changes, and ensuring year-end documentation is accurate and complete. Your core technical duties will include managing electronic timekeeping systems to calculate payable hours, tax withholdings, and various deductions with total precision.
Beyond data entry, you will play a vital role in reporting and compliance by preparing detailed payroll records for weekly, quarterly, and year-end reviews. You will also support our team's well-being by assisting with the administration of benefits and leave, including health insurance and retirement plans. As a problem-solver, you will proactively resolve payroll discrepancies and provide professional, timely responses to employee inquiries. Finally, you will collaborate closely with our accounting and operations departments to ensure a seamless, unified approach to payroll and benefits processing.
Requirements:
  • Experience: At least one year of experience in a fast-paced, professional office environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, with a mastery of Excel (specifically VLOOKUPS, pivot tables, and advanced functions).
  • Numerical Aptitude: Strong mathematical skills and a high level of data accuracy.
  • Detail Orientation: Exceptional attention to detail with a proven track record of maintaining precision.
  • Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively within a dynamic, shifting environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Payroll Expertise: +1 years of experience in a payroll office, specifically with multi-state payroll processing.
  • Systems Knowledge: Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (WFN) or similar HRIS platforms.
  • Certifications: FPC/CPP certification (completed or currently in progress).
  • Benefits and Leave: Experience managing employee benefits and leave administration.
  • Compliance: Background in Workers' Compensation administration.

Benefits: Our comprehensive benefits package is built to support your life both inside and outside of the office. We offer robust medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with term life, accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity plans. To ensure total peace of mind, we also provide access to legal and identity theft protection services. We believe in fueling your future as much as your present. You'll enjoy a generous PTO policy for true work-life balance, plus a 401(k) with company match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to help you build long-term wealth.
Join our collaborative environment where we prioritize outstanding service for our entire staff. If you pride yourself on your attention to detail and enjoy the complexities of payroll, we invite you to apply today!
