Job description

Business Analyst - Data Integration and ETL
Summary
Looking for a Business Analyst, AVP to support data integration and ETL capabilities, with a focus on understanding business needs, documenting requirements, and helping improve existing and new ETL designs. This role will work closely with the Product Owner, business stakeholders, engineering, QA, and support teams to ensure data flows are well-defined, supportable, and aligned with operational needs.
The role will focus on supporting integrations using ETL tools such as Pentaho Kettle and Talend, including source-to-target mapping, data transformation rules, validation, exception handling, and production support considerations. The candidate will also support migration planning and analysis as the data integration and ETL capabilities evolve toward Azure cloud-based platforms.
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of business analysis experience, strong analytical and documentation skills, and the ability to bridge business users, Product Owners, and technical teams. The candidate should be comfortable working with financial data workflows and translating requirements into user stories, functional specifications, mapping documents, acceptance criteria, and delivery-ready documentation.
Responsibilities
  • Research, analyze, and document business and functional requirements for data integration and ETL workflows.

  • Work closely with the Product Owner to understand priorities, clarify scope, and support design decisions for both existing ETL processes and new ETL enhancements.

  • Support platform-related data flows, including inbound feeds, outbound data distribution, transformations, validations, and downstream consumption.

  • Produce clear business requirement documents, functional specifications, source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, user stories, acceptance criteria, and workflow documentation.

  • Partner with engineering teams working with Pentaho Kettle, Talend, SQL, and related integration tools to translate business needs into implementable ETL design details.

  • Analyze current-state ETL workflows, identify gaps or pain points, and help define practical improvements that improve reliability, supportability, and business alignment.

  • Participate in design discussions for enhancements to existing ETL jobs as well as new ETL workflows needed to support investment management business processes.

  • Partner with QA to define test scenarios, data validation approaches, expected results, and end-to-end test coverage for ETL workflows.

  • Assist implementation, support, and operations teams in troubleshooting integration issues, reproducing data defects, clarifying expected behavior, and supporting root-cause analysis.

  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and usable by Product Owners, engineering, QA, operations, implementation, and support teams.

  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders regarding scope, requirements, risks, dependencies, decisions, trade-offs, and delivery progress.

Requirements
  • 4+ years of business analysis, product analysis, systems analysis, or implementation/support experience within financial technology, investment management, enterprise applications, or data integration environments.

  • Experience supporting investment management platforms, enterprise financial services systems, or comparable data integration environments is strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of ETL concepts and tools, especially Pentaho Kettle and/or Talend; experience with similar ETL or data integration platforms is also valuable.

  • Ability to document source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, data validation rules, exception handling, and operational support needs.

  • Strong understanding of financial services data domains such as securities, transactions, positions, accounts, reference data, market data, operations data, or reporting outputs.

  • Strong SQL knowledge, including the ability to analyze queries, understand joins, validate data, and support root-cause analysis of data issues.

  • Experience working with batch, scheduled, file-based, database-driven, and/or API-based integration workflows.

  • Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements, functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, mapping documents, and delivery-ready documentation.

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to reconcile conflicting data, identify gaps, validate assumptions, and work through complex business and technical scenarios.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate discussions across business, Product Owner, engineering, QA, operations, and support teams.

  • Experience supporting testing, UAT, defect triage, data validation, production issue analysis, and operational readiness activities.

  • Comfortable working in Agile delivery teams, including backlog refinement, story writing, sprint planning, demos, and prioritization discussions.

  • Ability to independently ramp up on complex workflows, ask thoughtful questions, drive clarity, and help teams move requirements from discovery through delivery.

  • Ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams and stakeholders across multiple functional areas.

  • Familiarity with data warehousing, reporting dependencies, data governance, metadata, lineage, or auditability concepts is a plus.

  • Some experience with cloud computing platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, including cloud migration analysis, cloud-based data platforms, storage, integration services, or operational considerations.

  • Exposure to Snowflake, SQL Server, Oracle, Azure data services, or other cloud/data platforms is helpful, especially where these platforms support ETL migration, reporting, or data integration use cases.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Equivalent practical experience in financial services, ETL analysis, platform support, or data integration delivery will also be considered.
