We're looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

As a Manufacturing Technology Engineer - Electromechanical, you will be developing tooling, equipment, and layouts to support manufacturing processes and the production system. This role will plan movement simulations and digital twins of the production environment to drive efficient, rapid, on-time production and start-up of the new production capacity internally and with Contract Manufacturers for aircraft production.

The right person for this role has successfully developed and executed manufacturing processes for electromechanical assemblies in LV/HV electronics. This role will bring designs to reality and be the bridge between.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, and conduct process development activities including Industrialization-related activities within the supply chain team.
  • Develop, Manage, Audit, Improve, and Correct supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing and assembly techniques from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification.
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Joby Supply Chain, Quality, and Design teams.
  • Identify Critical to Quality and drive Supplier for robust process design.
  • Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at suppliers in developing exceptionally robust tools, processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products.
  • Conduct and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and drive design solutions during the early design phase with the Design Engineering team.
  • Select material quantities or processing methods needed to achieve efficient production.
  • Develop manufacturing infrastructure to integrate or deploy new manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes, or equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new technologies and processes.

Required
  • 10+ years of experience as a designer and developer of tooling, equipment, and processes for PCBA, Electronics, and Electromechanical assemblies
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or 10 years of verifiable relevant work experience in the electromechanical/mechanical field
  • Experience in developing, building fixtures, tools, and gauges to deliver production run rates.
  • Technology development and implementation experience in tooling and fixturing.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment, next to operations and manufacturing engineering, to understand and optimize the manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and fabricate mechanisms based on DFM processes to meet PFMEA and DFMEA identified part risks and performance demands.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

  • Experience designing, manufacturing, procuring, installing, and maintaining tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing equipment and tooling
  • Catia, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, 3D design system experience.
  • Process improvement, including justification of return on investment for process or operational changes

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $124,600 - $213,800 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
