Job description

Position Summary
Odyssey is seeking an experienced Senior Manufacturing Engineer supporting the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Armament Directorate Munitions Division (AFLCMC/EBH) at Hill AFB, UT.
This position is responsible for advising and assisting in conducting producibility trade-off studies, analyzing prime contractor and sub-tier supplier production capabilities, evaluating process control methodologies, developing specifications, analyzing production planning, evaluating statistical process control techniques, and developing and maintaining factory simulations.
Responsibilities
Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Translate operational requirements into design and fabrication objectives.
  • Integrate actual factory floor data to improve the design process.
  • Determine suitability (stability and capability) of existing and proposed manufacturing processes for application to complex emerging product designs.
  • Apply variation reduction and lean manufacturing principles to manufacturing and assembly operations and evaluate adequacy of production processes and changes proposed as corrective actions in response to failures experienced in test or manufacturing.
  • Conduct Production Readiness Reviews and Manufacturing Readiness Assessments in accordance with the DoD Manufacturing Readiness Level Deskbook.
  • Monitor manufacturing costs, perform manufacturing schedule assessments, define and review manufacturing related metrics, and assure compliance with manufacturing and quality related Airworthiness criteria.
  • Develop manufacturing related inputs for Government use in SOWs, SOOs, and RFPs.
  • Using Supply Chain Management best practices, perform on-site supplier reviews, assessments, audits, and perform Process Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (PFMECAs); counterfeit parts detection and avoidance techniques, and Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and obsolescence management.

Qualifications
Citizenship: Must be a US citizen
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Secret clearance
  • Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in related discipline and 6 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in related discipline and 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 20 years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in related discipline and 15 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in related discipline and 5 years of relevant experience
  • ABET-accredited Engineering degree

Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
Technical Skills:
  • Strong ability to translate operational and mission requirements into clear technical, design, and fabrication objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating stability, capability, and suitability of manufacturing processes for complex or emerging product designs.
  • Expertise applying variation-reduction methods and lean manufacturing principles to improve production efficiency and quality.
  • Experience assessing production processes, identifying root causes of failures in test or manufacturing, and recommending effective corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of DoD Production Readiness Reviews and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) assessments, including use of the MRL Deskbook.
  • Ability to analyze manufacturing cost drivers, schedules, and performance metrics and ensure compliance with quality and Airworthiness requirements.
  • Experience developing manufacturing inputs for Government documentation, including Statements of Work (SOWs), Statements of Objectives (SOOs), and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Strong understanding of Supply Chain Management practices, including supplier assessments, audits, and performance monitoring.
  • Proficiency conducting Process Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analyses (PFMECAs), and applying counterfeit parts prevention and detection methods.
  • Knowledge of Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) and obsolescence management strategies.

Interpersonal Skills:
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making abilities to support complex technical evaluations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical findings to diverse audiences.
    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment and adapt to changing program needs.
