Manufacturing Staffing information

What is manufacturing staffing?

Manufacturing staffing refers to the process of recruiting, hiring, and managing workers for manufacturing companies or facilities. Staffing agencies specializing in this field help businesses find skilled and unskilled labor for positions such as machine operators, assemblers, quality control inspectors, and warehouse workers. These agencies handle tasks such as screening, interviewing, onboarding, and sometimes payroll, allowing manufacturers to quickly scale their workforce based on production demands.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in manufacturing staffing?

To thrive in Manufacturing Staffing, you need a solid understanding of workforce planning, recruitment strategies, and labor regulations, often supported by experience in staffing or human resources. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR management software, and compliance documentation is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help professionals build relationships with both clients and candidates. These skills ensure the efficient placement of qualified workers, compliance with labor laws, and the smooth operation of manufacturing processes.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in manufacturing staffing, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in manufacturing staffing often face challenges such as quickly filling high-volume positions, handling last-minute shift changes, and ensuring candidates have the appropriate skills and safety training. These challenges can be addressed by building strong relationships with a diverse talent pool, leveraging technology for efficient scheduling, and maintaining clear communication with both clients and candidates. Staying proactive and adaptable is key to meeting the fast-paced demands of manufacturing environments.

What is the difference between Manufacturing Staffing vs Machine Operator?

AspectManufacturing StaffingMachine Operator
CredentialsVaries; often includes general manufacturing or technical certificationsTypically requires specific machine operation certifications or training
Work EnvironmentMultiple manufacturing settings, including assembly lines and production facilitiesPrimarily focused on operating specific machinery within manufacturing plants
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by staffing agencies to supply temporary or permanent workers to manufacturing companiesEmployed directly by manufacturing companies to operate equipment

Manufacturing Staffing involves providing workers to manufacturing companies, often through staffing agencies, covering a range of roles including machine operation. Machine Operators are specific workers trained to operate particular machinery. While both roles are integral to manufacturing, Staffing focuses on workforce supply, whereas Machine Operators focus on operating equipment.

Job description

About Machina Labs

Engineering moves at software speed. Manufacturing doesn't. Yet.

Machina Labs is changing that. We build intelligent, softwareโ€‘defined factories that produce complex metal structures directly from digital design. By integrating advanced metal forming, robotics, and automated production inside a flexible factory architecture, we enable customers to move from prototype to production in weeks, not years.

Backed by Lockheed Martin, Toyota, and NVIDIA, we're building the manufacturing infrastructure that defense, aerospace, and advanced mobility programs will run on.

If you want to work on hard problems that matter and see them fly, drive, and defend, this is the place.

About the Role

The Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in creating CAM programs, developing and releasing internal manufacturing procedures, and overseeing Robocraftsman cells. This individual will implement continuous improvement strategies, utilizing lean methodologies to reduce waste. As the primary user of the Robocraftsman cells, the Manufacturing Engineer will identify limitations, recommend improvements to hardware and software teams, and test upgrades. This role works closely with the Robotic Process Engineering team and Production Technicians to ensure the timely delivery of parts to customers.

What You'll Do
  • Create forming and cutting tool paths using internal CAM tools.
  • Develop and release manufacturing procedures for production teams.
  • Oversee and take ownership of Robocraftsman cells, acting as the primary user.
  • Drive continuous improvement and reduce waste through lean manufacturing principles.
  • Collaborate with the Product Team to identify cell limitations and recommend improvements.
  • Test and validate hardware and software upgrades to ensure smooth integration into production.
  • Partner with the Robotic Process Engineering team to troubleshoot and optimize cell performance.
  • Work closely with Production Technicians to ensure timely and accurate production of parts.
  • Maintain detailed records of changes, improvements, and tests related to Robocraftsman cells.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing staff on new processes, tools, and systems.
What We're Looking For
  • B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 2 years of manufacturing experience in production-heavy environments.
  • Handsโ€‘on experience designing, testing, and improving manufacturing processes to stay lean and efficient.
  • Strong ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience collaborating with crossโ€‘functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, and mechanical engineers.
  • Proficiency with CAD, CAM software, and CNC programming.
  • Background in job shops or manufacturers with forming, machining, or sheet metal capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Material Resource Planning (MRP) software.
  • Strong technical writing, problemโ€‘solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fastโ€‘paced environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
Bonus Points For
  • Experience in a manufacturing engineer role at an ISO9001/ASE9100 certified facility.
  • Practical experience in a machine shop with a focus on quality standards.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and precision assessment principles.
  • Experience in lean, safety, and compliance activities.
  • Experience authoring/revising technical documents, including quality procedures, work instructions, and technical reports.
  • Proficiency in surface modeling using CAD.

$80,000 - $115,000 a year

In addition to the provided base salary range, this role also offers comprehensive benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision), PTO, and Stock Options.

*This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required for this role. Duties and responsibilities may change based on business needs.
