Non-Exempt, Hourly

General Summary of the Position


The Manufacturing Manager plays a critical leadership role overseeing daily shop operations and guiding a skilled team of welders, fabricators, and the assistant shop managers. This handson leader is responsible for planning and organizing work schedules, assigning tasks, and establishing production sequences that keep projects on track and aligned with company goals. The Manufacturing Manager ensures all team members understand specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company procedures, fostering accuracy and consistency across every job. Additionally, this role oversees steel and parts inventory to maintain uninterrupted workflow and support efficient, highquality production.


Essential Functions

  1. Review blueprints for completeness, accuracy and conformance to standards before distributing to shop for production.
  2. Assign work orders to welders/fabricators; manage and track so projects are completed on time.
  3. Monitor and manage steel and parts inventory.
  4. Schedule trucking for galvanizing or powder coating.
  5. Coordinate in-house fabrication, maintenance or repair projects or tasks within or between departments.
  6. Participate in interviewing, hiring and training new employees. Assign new employees to experienced workers for mentoring/training.
  7. Review employee performance and make compensation recommendations. Make other employment recommendations as needed.
  8. Schedule monthly manufacturing safety training sessions with PSC Consultants.
  9. Ensure safety procedures are adhered
  10. Ensure employees are properly trained to operate equipment
  11. Manage preventative maintenance for equipment
  12. Inspect work progress, equipment and tools to verify safety or to ensure that specifications are met; provide instruction to employees to prevent, detect and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedure and/or safety rules.
  13. Expected to function as a working leader and ability to help in production/fabrication when needed.
  14. Lead and support continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing waste, increasing productivity, improving workflow and enhancing overall manufacturing efficiency.
  15. Analyze production processes and identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction and increased throughput; implement process improvements using Lean, 5S, or other CI methodologies.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  2. Knowledge of all types of metals and relevant welding/fabricating and cutting techniques using correct machinery, equipment and tools including CNC plasma, laser, waterjet.
  3. Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide into all units of measure.
  4. Ensure all shop employees know and follow all company safety policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  5. Basic computer and software knowledge; including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). CNC software and CAD viewer desired.
  6. Ability to lead employees in order to motivate them; foster open, honest and candid communication; and determine strengths and weaknesses.
  7. Excellent communication skills - reading/writing/verbal English for efficiency in communicating to employees work assignments, promote safe work practices, communicate with upper management and prepare and transmit consistent, accurate reports and time keeping.
  8. Use good judgment and decision-making skills to answer questions, address complaints and resolve problems.
  9. Knowledge of continuous improvement concepts such as Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, value-stream mapping, waste reduction and workflow optimization.
  10. Ability to evaluate and improve manufacturing processes to enhance operational efficiency, productivity and cost-effectiveness.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education, Training and Experience

  1. High School graduate or GED required; 2-year degree or trade school preferred.
  2. Five or more years of previous work-related experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  3. Experience in leading and managing production teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment highly desired.


Work Context

  1. Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in shop conditions that include heat and humidity. Occasionally exposed to risk of electric shock.
  2. Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  3. Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
  4. Wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves and hearing protection.
  5. Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
  6. Excellent stamina is required.

Special Requirements

  1. Valid driver's license.
  2. Pass PPPO, General Manufacturing Physical and Drug Screen.
  3. Must be 18 or older.
