Job description

Equipment Inventory & Logistics Coordinator – Job Posting

Location: Alto, Michigan

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday

Starting Pay: $22–$34 per hour, based on experience and demonstrated skills

Help Us Keep Our Equipment—and Our Freight—Moving

VanderZiel Machinery Sales is looking for an organized, dependable person to help manage equipment inventory and coordinate incoming and outgoing freight across VanderZiel Machinery Sales, All Fab Positioners, and VZ Rents.

VanderZiel Machinery Sales is a family-owned industrial machinery company that has served manufacturers throughout the United States since 1996. From our 64,000-square-foot facility in Alto, Michigan, we buy and sell new and used metalworking and fabrication equipment. Our inventory includes more than 1,000 pieces of machinery.

All Fab Positioners manufactures welding positioners and related equipment, while VZ Rents provides higher-capacity forklift rentals.

This is an opportunity to join three growing companies and play an important role in managing machinery from the time it arrives until it reaches the customer.

A Role That Can Match Your Experience

We recognize that the right candidate may come to us with different combinations of experience.

You may be an organized logistics coordinator who is ready to learn more about machinery, specialized freight, and inventory control.

You may already have experience coordinating flatbeds, double drops, oversize loads, permits, and heavy-equipment transportation.

Or you may bring a strong combination of inventory control, machinery knowledge, equipment research, and heavy-haul logistics experience.

We are open to all three. Starting pay and the initial level of responsibility will be based on the skills and experience you bring to the position.

What You Could Be Doing

Depending on your experience, responsibilities may include:

  • Obtaining and comparing freight quotes
  • Scheduling incoming and outgoing machinery, equipment, parts, and rental freight
  • Communicating with customers, vendors, carriers, brokers, and drivers
  • Tracking shipments and communicating delays or schedule changes
  • Photographing incoming and outgoing equipment
  • Maintaining bills of lading, freight quotes, proofs of delivery, permits, photographs, and other shipping records
  • Recording and comparing quoted and final freight costs
  • Coordinating flatbeds, step decks, double drops, removable goosenecks, Conestogas, and other specialized trailers
  • Assisting with oversize, overheight, overlength, and overweight shipments
  • Coordinating permits, routes, escorts, and other heavy-haul requirements
  • Receiving and asset-tagging incoming machinery and equipment
  • Recording manufacturers, models, serial numbers, years, costs, locations, and inventory status
  • Measuring and recording machine dimensions, shipping dimensions, and weights
  • Researching machine specifications, capacities, features, controls, tooling, and accessories
  • Researching comparable machinery listings and pricing information to assist with resale pricing
  • Performing cycle counts and resolving inventory discrepancies
  • Occasionally assisting with loading and unloading equipment using forklifts and overhead cranes

What We Need From Every Candidate

Regardless of experience level, the successful candidate must be:

  • Organized, accurate, and dependable
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Strong with follow-up and recordkeeping
  • Able to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, drivers, and coworkers
  • Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, digital photographs, and online research
  • Willing to learn about industrial machinery and specialized transportation
  • Comfortable working in both an office and industrial warehouse environment
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Safety-conscious when working around machinery, trucks, forklifts, and cranes
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

Experience That Can Increase the Starting Rate

A higher starting rate may be available for candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Industrial machinery or heavy equipment
  • Inventory control or serialized-asset management
  • Machinery specifications or used-equipment research
  • Freight coordination, dispatch, or carrier management
  • Flatbeds, step decks, double drops, removable goosenecks, or Conestogas
  • Oversize or overweight permitting
  • Heavy-haul route and escort coordination
  • Inventory or equipment-management software
  • Forklift operation
  • Overhead-crane operation
  • Rigging, machinery moving, or equipment loading
  • Commercial driving—a CDL is a plus but is not required

Compensation Based on Skill Level

  • $22–$25 per hour: Strong coordination, shipping, receiving, dispatch, or administrative logistics experience with a willingness to learn machinery transportation and inventory control
  • $26–$29 per hour: Relevant freight, inventory, manufacturing, machinery, or specialized transportation experience
  • $30–$34 per hour: Demonstrated ability to independently manage inventory control, machinery research, specialized trailers, heavy-haul transportation, and oversize shipment requirements

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Opportunity for wage growth as additional skills are developed
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Health Savings Account benefits
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Paid lunch
  • Performance bonus opportunity
  • Training in industrial machinery and specialized transportation
  • A stable, family-owned work environment
  • The opportunity to make a visible impact across three growing companies

If you are highly organized, enjoy solving problems, and are interested in machinery, inventory, transportation, or all three, we encourage you to apply—even if you do not currently have every specialized skill listed.

VanderZiel Machinery Sales, All Fab Positioners, and VZ Rents are equal opportunity employers.
