CED is well situated in Downers Grove, Illinois - we are located a commuter train ride west of Chicago and a short drive from farmland.


CED's current salary range for this role is $23.00 to $25.00 / hour. At CED, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions may vary based upon, but not limited to education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, location and geography.


JOB SUMMARY:

This CED Engineering Internship opportunity is open to candidates who are currently enrolled in a formal engineering program or have recently graduated from a college or university. Interns receive hands-on experience by supporting a variety of design or manufacturing related activities while collaborating with experienced engineers in a professional environment. This internship provides the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge, develop technical skills, and contribute to meaningful projects, all within a framework that emphasizes learning, quality, and safety.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with basic design and engineering tasks under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Support the creation, review, and updating of engineering documentation and drawings
  • Participate in the development and improvement of design concepts, components, or assemblies
  • Help prepare models, sketches, or layouts to support ongoing engineering work
  • Contribute to problem solving activities by gathering information, performing simple analyses, or reviewing design requirements
  • Maintain organized project files, documentation, and records in accordance with team standards
  • Participate in meetings, design reviews, and project discussions to gain exposure to engineering processes
  • Follow established procedures and guidelines to support design quality, safety, and compliance
  • Complete assigned tasks that enhance learning and contribute to project progress

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure 100% compliance with the Chemring Operational Framework, Code of Conduct and U.S. Code of Ethics and Business Conduct

EDUCATION:

Degree seeking students who are Junior or Senior year standing and enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline; recent graduate will be considered


EXPERIENCE:

  • Familiarity with software (CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or Fusion 360)
  • Commensurate with education level, able to create technical sketches, drafting, or written reports
  • Completed coursework in Machine Design, CAD, or Manufacturing Processes
  • Experience with design software via academic projects or personal hobbies

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lawful US Person (ITAR restrictions)
  • Must be eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) for all employees of Chemring Energetic Devices
  • Requires a minimum commitment of 350 hours to be completed over a span of two or more months (10-12 weeks)
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and design concepts relative to formal education
  • Familiarity with computer aided design (CAD) tools or willingness to learn
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn engineering software, modeling tools, or analysis programs as required
  • Commensurate with education, exhibits problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to learn from experienced engineers and team members
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Use of computer.
