Your role:
The Data Scientist will be responsible for supporting the Global R&D Sciences team to design experiments and analyze data optimizing experimental efficiency and minimize the risks of accuracy, precision and errors (type I and type II) and generate quantitative insights. The Data Scientist will be an educator and collaborator, training the team on design of experiments and data analysis in addition to reviewing protocols (from statistical rigor standpoint), data and reports to improve the statistical interpretation of results and conclusions drawn from the testing.
What you'll be doing:
  • Supporting R&D projects and products through input on designs of laboratory testing and/or the analyses of existing data.
  • Devising new approaches to complex problems through adaptations and modifications of standard technical principles, e.g., DMAIC, experimental DOE, and Hypothesis testing.
  • Assure the use of appropriate statistical rigor in testing and data analyses.
  • Designing experiments and assisting others with design of experiments, including:
    • Determining variables assessed versus those remaining fixed
    • Bounding the design space
    • Identifying controls for the experiment
    • Determining if R&R is needed, and if so, how the assessment is performed
  • Aiding with statistical assessments
    • Sample size determination
    • Null hypothesis
    • Type 1 and Type 2 errors
  • Evaluating the data
    • Determining variability of the data
    • Where necessary determining normalcy, limit of detection, limit of quantification and/or assessing difference
  • Performing multivariant analyses to assess the sensitivity of the system and impact of the different variables. And using this information to optimize the system or design further testing.
  • Educating the Science team on how to perform these activities for themselves.
  • Providing periodic updates to R&D Sciences management.

What you'll bring:
  • Engineering or Science background with strong statistical mind set
  • Demonstrated ability and interest to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Ability to drive results on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Experience working with laboratory or manufacturing data
  • Experience designing experiments (DOE)
  • Ability to influence management on courses of action using data analyses with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
  • Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
  • Must be able to develop and tell business value proposition story using data

Education and/or Experience:
  • Degree in engineering, sciences, math/statistics or similar disciplines.
  • B.S. with greater than 10+ years of related experience or M.S. with greater than 7+ years of related experience or Ph.D. with greater than 5+ years of related experience.
  • 10+ years' work in a position requiring in depth data analyses and reporting
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, such as medical device or pharmaceuticals preferred
  • Strong statistical background is required (through education and/or work experience)
  • Expert level user of common statistical tools like Minitab or JMP
  • Expert level user of statistical capabilities in Excel to solve business problems using complex and large data sets.
  • Expertise in automating statistical data analysis using Python is preferred
  • Comfort with developing Excel macros and providing such templates to scientists
  • Formal DMAIC experience is required, Formal Design for Six Sigma experience preferred
  • GMP/GLP/GDP experience in medical devices and drug products highly preferred

At Vantive, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $128,000 to $160,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
