MANUFACTURING TECHNICIAN

SpaceX is leveraging our experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's largest satellite constellation and most advanced broadband internet system, providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. Our Bastrop factory builds the technology behind Starlink across printed circuit boards, custom silicon, solar cells, and more. We are looking for talented, driven technicians to drive manufacturing output and yield across our production, maintenance, and facilities teams.

This is a hands-on technician role. We are building a strong team of technicians who are trained into the team where they will have the greatest impact and clearest path to grow. This includes PCB production, machine and facilities maintenance, silicon packaging, gateway, solar, and satellite operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced, metrics-driven manufacturing environment, learns quickly, works safely, and is motivated by SpaceX's mission to provide high speed, low-latency connectivity across the globe.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform assigned technical tasks to written work instructions, procedures, and safety standards in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Execute startup and shutdown procedures and operate production equipment; monitor process conditions and control systems
  • Perform first-level troubleshooting on production equipment and tooling; provide feedback and work with maintenance and engineering teams to drive root cause of downtime
  • Use hand and power tools, precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers), and common test equipment for calibration, inspection, and basic repair
  • Read and interpret work instructions, mechanical/electrical/pneumatic schematics, drawings, and parts lists
  • Read and safely execute lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures and follow all Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for the assigned area
  • Handle production and flight hardware correctly to prevent damage; perform quality inspections and identify defects and non-conformities
  • Perform preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment and instruments; track schedule and maintain inventory of consumables
  • Record work accurately in Warp, Factory Manual, and related manufacturing systems (travelers, tickets, work orders, logs)
  • Support root cause analysis (e.g. 5-Why) for quality and process issues and implement corrective actions to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Recommend improvements to manufacturing processes with a focus on reducing cost and downtime and increasing yield
  • Ensure 5S standards are upheld by maintaining a clean and organized work area
  • Conduct or support training of production personnel; cross-train and rotate across tasks, stations, or lines as production demand shifts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ years of hands on work experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, maintenance, facilities, skilled trades, automotive, military, or a technical/vocational school program
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from work instructions, layout drawings, mechanical/electrical/pneumatic schematics, and parts lists
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools and basic precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, multimeters)
  • Basic mechanical and/or electrical fundamentals (fasteners, pneumatics/hydraulics; Ohm's law, multimeter use)
  • Proficiently use a computer and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience using production and inventory management software such as MES/ERP
  • Experience with root cause analysis and problem solving (e.g. 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work closely with other technicians and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to identify and maintain priorities while working independently in a high-paced environment with minimal oversight
  • OSHA 10/30, forklift, or other relevant safety certifications
