Testers follow test cases, report bugs, and collaborate with development teams using online communication and project management tools. Remote manual testers need strong attention to detail, clear documentation skills, and the ability to work independently. This role is crucial for identifying user experience issues and ensuring software quality before release.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manual software tester working remotely?

To thrive as a Manual Software Tester in a remote setting, you need a solid understanding of software development life cycles, test case design, and defect tracking, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with bug tracking tools like Jira, test management systems such as TestRail, and basic knowledge of SQL are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, effective written communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and problem-solving. These skills ensure accurate testing, clear reporting, and efficient teamwork, leading to higher software quality in distributed environments.

How does a remote manual software tester typically collaborate with development teams to resolve bugs and improve product quality?

Job description

Role Overview

As a Senior QA Engineer, you will be responsible for quality in a new product squad working in US hours on a crypto payment platform. The role is automation-first: you write and maintain automated tests on top of a shared test framework, move routine regression into CI, and complement automation with hands-on exploratory and acceptance testing for client-facing releases. Success means the squad ships client-facing functionality confidently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the test strategy and execution for the squad: acceptance, exploratory, and regression testing
  • Write and maintain automated UI and API tests on the shared test framework
  • Own and prioritize the automation backlog; move routine regression into CI so releases are not blocked on manual passes
  • Review product requirements and acceptance criteria with product and engineering, providing feedback before development starts
  • Verify client-facing releases and run acceptance testing before they reach clients
  • Communicate with stakeholders and third-party vendors about ongoing product issues
  • Maintain QA documentation and reports, including release testing and escaped defects reports
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a QA Engineer on web applications
  • Strong experience writing and maintaining automated test scripts for UI, API, or backend tests
  • Good programming skills in TypeScript
  • Proficiency in a modern automation framework, i.e. Playwright
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on manual testing skills: exploratory, regression, smoke, and acceptance testing
  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Insomnia or Postman
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries for testing and data verification
  • Understanding of the test pyramid and automation strategy
  • Proficient use of AI tooling in test design and coding, with critical review of AI-generated output
  • Prior crypto experience is optional; building a working understanding of crypto and stablecoin payment flows on the job is a mandatory part of the role
  • High agency: you raise quality risks while they are still cheap to fix and drive them to a decision
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Experience
  • Fintech, payments, or crypto domain experience
  • Experience with Jira and TestRail (or similar products)
  • Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and shift-left practices
  • Performance testing experience
Reporting Structure

Reports to: Engineering Manager.

Location

Remote. USA, Argentina, or Brazil. The role works US business hours (Eastern Time).
