Manual Qa Engineer Remote information

What are some common challenges faced by remote manual QA engineers, and how can they be effectively managed?

Remote Manual QA Engineers often face challenges such as coordinating with distributed development teams, ensuring clear communication regarding test requirements, and managing access to testing environments or devices. To overcome these, it's important to leverage collaboration tools like Slack or Jira, maintain detailed documentation, and proactively schedule regular check-ins with team members. Building strong communication habits and staying organized can help ensure thorough test coverage and timely bug reporting, even when working remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manual QA engineer remote?

To thrive as a Manual QA Engineer (Remote), you need a solid understanding of software development lifecycles, test case design, bug reporting, and quality assurance principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with test management tools like Jira, TestRail, or Zephyr, and experience in using defect tracking systems are usually required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for success in a remote environment. These abilities ensure that software products are thoroughly tested, defects are accurately reported, and teams collaborate efficiently to maintain high product quality.

What is a manual QA engineer?

Manual QA Engineers are professionals responsible for testing software applications manually to identify bugs, usability issues, and ensure quality before release. Unlike automated QA engineers, they do not rely on scripts or automation tools but instead execute test cases by hand, following predefined procedures or exploring the application as an end user would. Manual QA Engineers play a crucial role in detecting issues early, providing feedback to developers, and helping maintain high product standards. In remote positions, they perform these tasks from a remote location, collaborating with teams via online tools and platforms.

Job description

Role Overview
As a Senior QA Engineer, you will be responsible for quality in a new product squad working in US hours on a crypto payment platform. The role is automation-first: you write and maintain automated tests on top of a shared test framework, move routine regression into CI, and complement automation with hands-on exploratory and acceptance testing for client-facing releases. Success means the squad ships client-facing functionality confidently.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the test strategy and execution for the squad: acceptance, exploratory, and regression testing
  • Write and maintain automated UI and API tests on the shared test framework
  • Own and prioritize the automation backlog; move routine regression into CI so releases are not blocked on manual passes
  • Review product requirements and acceptance criteria with product and engineering, providing feedback before development starts
  • Verify client-facing releases and run acceptance testing before they reach clients
  • Communicate with stakeholders and third-party vendors about ongoing product issues
  • Maintain QA documentation and reports, including release testing and escaped defects reports
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a QA Engineer on web applications
  • Strong experience writing and maintaining automated test scripts for UI, API, or backend tests
  • Good programming skills in TypeScript
  • Proficiency in a modern automation framework, i.e. Playwright
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Hands-on manual testing skills: exploratory, regression, smoke, and acceptance testing
  • Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Insomnia or Postman
  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries for testing and data verification
  • Understanding of the test pyramid and automation strategy
  • Proficient use of AI tooling in test design and coding, with critical review of AI-generated output
  • Prior crypto experience is optional; building a working understanding of crypto and stablecoin payment flows on the job is a mandatory part of the role
  • High agency: you raise quality risks while they are still cheap to fix and drive them to a decision
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Experience
  • Fintech, payments, or crypto domain experience
  • Experience with Jira and TestRail (or similar products)
  • Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitLab CI)
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and shift-left practices
  • Performance testing experience
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Engineering Manager.
Location
Remote. USA, Argentina, or Brazil. The role works US business hours (Eastern Time).
Compensation and Benefits
As an independent contractor, you'll enjoy the flexibility to determine how and when you deliver your work, while partnering closely with our team to meet agreed milestones and business objectives. Compensation and engagement terms will be outlined in your contractor agreement.
Additional Benefits
  • Company issued laptop
  • Technology Accessories
  • Annual In-Person Full-Team Meetup
