Head of Unit Performance

Location: On-site, Laredo, Texas

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with 24/7 availability to handle operational emergencies when necessary.

Salary: Negotiable, based on experience.

DX Xpress Inc., is a leading transportation and logistics company seeking a results-oriented professional with administrative and managerial expertise to lead the comprehensive management of our fleet's performance, maintenance operations, unit availability, cost control, operational compliance, and continuous improvement.

This position will be responsible for directing the strategy regarding maintenance and unit performance, ensuring that tractors, trailers, and auxiliary equipment operate according to optimal standards of safety, availability, efficiency, and quality.

We are looking for an individual with experience in operations management, team leadership,

KPI management, and budget control, preferably with a background in quality management, audits, process improvement, and compliance.

Technical knowledge of workshop operations, heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, and mechanical diagnostics will be considered a significant asset.

Responsibilities

Lead the administrative, operational, and strategic management of the maintenance and fleet performance department.

Define, implement, and monitor strategies focused on unit availability, reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Oversee key performance indicators (KPIs) such as unit availability, repair times, maintenance costs, preventive maintenance compliance, repeat issues, workshop productivity, and asset utilization.

Manage budgets, operating costs, vendors, spare parts, tools, supplies, and external services.

Coordinate preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance plans, ensuring compliance, follow-up, and traceability.

Implement processes, policies, procedures, and operational standards to improve departmental efficiency.

Ensure compliance with regulations regarding safety, transportation, maintenance, inspections, and internal or external audits.

Coordinate with Operations, Safety, Compliance, Quality, Purchasing, and Finance departments to align business priorities. Develop, analyze, and present management reports covering KPIs, trends, risks, opportunities, and action plans.

Drive initiatives for continuous improvement, cost reduction, process standardization, and quality control.

Lead teams comprising supervisors, technicians, mechanics, and administrative staff, fostering operational discipline, order, and a culture of compliance.

Ensure up-to-date records of maintenance, inspections, repairs, unit history, and supporting documentation.

Conduct root cause analysis for recurring failures, performance deviations, or operational non-compliance.

Evaluate the performance of suppliers, external repair shops, and contracted services.

Ensure units are available, safe, and ready for operation in line with business needs.

Handle and coordinate critical situations or operational emergencies related to fleet availability and performance.

Requirements

Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in managerial, administrative, or operational roles related to maintenance, transportation, logistics, fleet management, assets, or heavy-duty units.

Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams, including operational, technical, and administrative personnel.

Experience managing KPIs, budgets, costs, suppliers, and action plans.

Knowledge of quality management systems, audits, continuous improvement, document control, and processes or methodologies such as 5S, Lean, ISO, or root cause analysis.

Ability to interpret operational and financial data for decision-making.

Experience developing procedures, controls, executive reports, and operational standards.

Knowledge of US regulations regarding transportation, safety, compliance, and maintenance is desirable.

Proficiency in administrative systems, reporting, Excel, and maintenance platforms, ERP, TMS, or fleet management software is desirable.

English and Spanish proficiency is desirable, particularly for communicating with operational teams, suppliers, and corporate departments.

Availability to work on-site in Laredo, Texas.

24/7 availability to handle operational emergencies as required by business operations.

Technical knowledge of tractor-trailers, trailers, diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, and diagnostics will be considered a plus.
