Job description

Control Laws People Leader - Flight Sciences in  GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

A Control Law Group Head will recruit, select, develop, and motivate team members, as well as assign personnel across a range of programs.  Responsibilities include task planning, tracking, and reporting to include scope, schedule, and resource allocation.  They will provide technical oversight of their team and the team’s deliverables, striving to always ensure safety.

In addition, a Control Law Group Head  will have primary responsibility for developing control law requirements along with their validation & verification.  Deliverables include control law architecture and gains, to include structural notch filters as required to prevent aeroservoelastic issues.  Other responsibilities include contributing to the planning and execution of flight test activities and the resolution of in-service airplane issues.

The Control Law Group Head will collaborate with the other Flight Dynamics Group Heads to ensure the success of the Flight Dynamics department and the Flight Sciences directorate.

Minimum qualifications vary based on position level as follows:

Group Head I  - 10 years of broad Engineering experience including 5 years in a specific technical discipline. 1 year of supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.

Group Head II - 13 years of broad Engineering experience including 8 years in a specific technical discipline. 5 years of supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.

For both levels, experience credit is considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 years with a Masters or 4 years with a PhD in fields applicable to this job.


 

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 10 years Engineering experience. 5 years specific technical discipline. Experience credit considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 yrs with Masters, 4 yrs with PhD in fields applicable to this job. 1 year supervisory or broad managerial responsibility. Position Purpose: Supervises a group of engineering employees within a similar discipline responsible for task and objective assignments. Utilizing diversified knowledge and engineering experience, provides direction to subordinate employees, administers performance standards, schedules and budgets.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
  1. Develops and evaluates plans for projects and activities; assesses technical feasibility and soundness of proposed analysis, tests, or concepts being applied.
  2. Provides direct supervision of employees of similar expertise for a large project or a number of small projects.
  3. Communicates performance expectations, salary administration, and conducts performance appraisals.
  4. Responsible for establishing and executing objectives that support short term goals.
  5. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods; represents the organization to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.
  6. Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings concerning specific projects.
  7. Acts as an advisor to subordinate leads or staff members.
  8. Actively participates in daily operations as required. to meet schedules and resolve issues.
Additional Functions:
  1. May recommend modifications to operating policies. .
Perform other duties as assigned. Other Requirements:
  1. The level of managerial skills and abilities appropriate for this grade may be established by each discipline.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain the cooperation of others.
