Snow Surface - Snow Making Manager
Company Overview
Wasatch Peaks Ranch is developing and building a new private mountain resort community located in the Wasatch Mountains 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City. The development encompasses 12,000 acres including 3,000 acres of private ski terrain; a Tom Fazio-designed private golf course; and 460 private homes and homesites being developed under a multi-phase 10-15-year buildout. This multi-billion-dollar project will offer the most exclusive array of skiing, golf, and a variety of other amenities in a private club setting in the United States.
Job Summary
The Snowmaking Manager position is accountable for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of snowmaking equipment. The Manager is responsible for the training and development of snowmakers, ensuring all snowmaking practices follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols. This role involves conducting thorough equipment checks, ensuring proper maintenance and documentation, and communication between departments regarding equipment location, trail status, and necessary maintenance. The Snowmaking Manager will work closely with the Snow Surfaces Management Team to provide an exceptional snow surface for our members and guests. This position will support the entire mountain operations team. Coordinating contractors and internal teams, supporting and helping shape how our snowmaking system operates long-term.
Education and/or Experience
  • 5 years of prior snowmaking operations experience with automated systems.
  • Prior managerial experience in snowmaking operations.
  • Grooming experience is helpful or willing to learn.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Driver's License, in good standing, required.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

  • Automated SMI / Torrent snowmaking knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to train others in the Snowmaking Department.
  • Ability to safely operate motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in operation of various types of grooming machines preferred.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use hand and power tools and other equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and learn tasks associated with resort operations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
  • Willingness to work with others and promote a positive work environment.
  • GIS knowledge or ability to learn.
  • Ability to manage and trouble shoot, control software system such as Smart Snow.

Duties and Core Competencies
  • Manages, trains, and mentors Snowmakers in proper snowmaking techniques and safety protocols.
  • Manage payroll, budget, and scheduling.
  • Exudes a professional attitude and leads by example.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Abides by operating procedures, i.e., pre-trip inspection, fueling & fluids checks, Interior vehicle inspection and cleaning.
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed and reports equipment issues to management.
  • Follow and perform all company and departmental policies and procedures i.e., punctuality, attendance, dress, and grooming standards, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings and leads pre shift safety meetings.
  • Assist members, guests, and coworkers to enjoy their time at WPR.
  • Performs other appropriate tasks as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Exposed to mechanical and electrical parts, winter weather, and cold conditions.
  • Ability to work night shifts and in adverse weather conditions.
  • The position requires varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, stooping and movement.
  • Continuous sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Use personal protective equipment while performing jobs and tasks.
