Job description

2041 Senior VB.NET Developer

2041 Senior VB.NET Developer

We are seeking a Senior VB.NET Desktop Application Developer with deep experience supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing legacy Microsoft desktop applications. This role is best suited for a seasoned developer whose background is centered on VB.NET, C#, Windows/desktop application development, SQL, and SQL Server rather than primarily modern web, cloud-native, or microservices development.

The ideal candidate has significant hands-on experience working in established legacy codebases, understands how to safely modify business-critical applications, and is comfortable investigating older systems, resolving production issues, and delivering enhancements without requiring a full application rewrite. Experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS) and/or Jira is also important.

Responsibilities

·       Maintain, support, troubleshoot, and enhance legacy VB.NET desktop applications.

·       Develop and modify Windows-based desktop applications using VB.NET and C#.

·       Work within mature and established codebases, diagnosing application defects and implementing reliable fixes and enhancements.

·       Analyze existing application logic and business processes before making changes to production systems.

·       Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database-related application functionality in Microsoft SQL Server.

·       Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and production support issues across legacy systems.

·       Participate in application upgrades, maintenance releases, technical debt reduction, and selective modernization while preserving critical legacy functionality.

·       Use Team Foundation Server (TFS) and/or Jira for source control, work tracking, defect management, and development workflow activities.

·       Collaborate with business users, analysts, QA, and technical team members to understand requirements and deliver practical application solutions.

·       Document technical changes, participate in code reviews, and follow established development and release processes.

Required Qualifications

·       6+ years of hands-on .NET development experience, with substantial professional experience using VB.NET.

·       Strong experience developing and supporting desktop/Windows applications in VB.NET.

·       Hands-on C# development experience, particularly within existing or legacy Microsoft application environments.

·       Demonstrated experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing legacy applications and large existing codebases.

·       Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including queries, stored procedures, database development, and performance troubleshooting.

·       Experience with Team Foundation Server (TFS) and/or Jira.

·       Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and production support skills.

·       Ability to understand existing business logic and make targeted changes without unnecessarily redesigning or rewriting stable legacy applications.

·       Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred / Nice to Have

·       Experience with older .NET Framework environments and long-running enterprise desktop applications.

·       Experience with application integrations, REST APIs, or third-party systems.

·       Exposure to Azure or Azure DevOps is helpful but is not the primary focus of this position.

·       Experience supporting applications through maintenance, enhancement, upgrade, or gradual modernization initiatives.
