Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of lock and key mechanics, equipment, and systems.
  • Experience as a Locksmith or cutting keys.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining commercial locks, automatic doors, exit devices, and other locking devices on all types of doors, gates, key watchers, and other equipment.
  • Experience with electronic key controls.
  • Performs installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, retrofitting, and repair of electronic locks, delayed egress devices, and Access Control systems.
  • Locksmith license of certification.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions and requests from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.

Job Description
The locksmith will perform the work required to maintain, repair, install, and operate doors and locks of the mechanical and electronic variety to ensure the safety and security of the residence halls and apartments managed and operated by the Department of Housing and Residential Life.
Job Duties
Safety and Security:
  • Install, repair, and pin commercial cylinder cores to operate within an established master key system.
  • Use PDA to change lock codes as needed. Respond to emergencies to repair broken locks.
  • Analyze computer-generated work orders and prioritize repairs. Use troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to perform maintenance, repairs, system identification, and equipment malfunctions. Work with key software.
  • Communicate with supervisor, staff, and residents. Complete and submit paperwork to your supervisor at the end of each day.
  • Ensure all inventory items are signed out and accounted for daily. Sign and close out all completed work orders daily with a description of the work performed.
  • Serve as part of the call rotations for after-hours emergencies.

Special Projects:
  • Assisted in installing and repairing door access systems, including door management alarms, card readers, electric strikes, electrified exit devices, delayed egress devices, and door contacts.
  • Transport equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine preventive maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
