Job Summary:
The HR Generalist will provide day-to-day human resources support across key functional areas, with a strong focus on leaves of absence, employee separations, and workplace accommodations. This role serves as the primary resource for managers and employees in the administration of leaves of absence, ADA accommodations, and employee termination processes while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. The HR Generalist will manage leave documentation, coordinate return-to-work activities, support voluntary and involuntary separations, and maintain accurate HR records. This position will also support onboarding, offboarding, training, and HR compliance, ensuring consistent and fair application of HR practices.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee and administer employee leave and accommodation programs, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), ADA accommodations, state-specific leave programs including AZ, IL, GA, and new additions as needed, personal leaves, workers' compensation, and short-term/long-term disability programs.
• Coordinate return-to-work activities following leaves of absence or workplace accommodations, ensuring timely documentation, effective communication with managers, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
• Manage and coordinate employee separation processes, including voluntary resignations, involuntary terminations, and job abandonments.
• Coordinate the interactive process for employee accommodation requests, including ergonomic evaluations, by collaborating with employees and managers determine and implement appropriate workplace accommodations.
• Support the implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Assist with the coordination and facilitation of onboarding, employee training, and engagement activities.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRIS system.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate employee status changes related to leaves of absence, accommodations, employee separations, and return-to-work processes.
• Track, monitor, and maintain leave and separation records; generate reports and provide insights regarding leave trends, turnover, and compliance metrics.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to HR processes and employee experience.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional HR Generalist experience, including hands-on responsibility for leave administration, employee separations, and HR compliance.
• Solid knowledge of HR practices and employment law of federal and state leave regulations (FMLA, CFRA, ADA, PDL) including for the following states: CA, AZ, IL, GA, and additional states as needed.
• Strong knowledge of California employment law.
• SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred but not required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong communication and consultation skills with the ability to effectively guide managers and employees through sensitive leave and separation matters while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
• Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
• Proven ability to handle leaves of absence with professionalism, consistency, and a strong understanding of employment law and internal policies.
• Proactive problem solver with attention to detail and a commitment to follow-through.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ADP Workforce Now and Greenhouse preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Willingness to travel to nearby office locations as needed.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
Pay range
$55,000-$70,000 USD
