Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel assignment requiring 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details
  • Work in the Neuro ICU of an academic teaching hospital
  • Care for neurological ICU patients including CVA/acute stroke, traumatic brain injury, and post-craniotomy/post-neurosurgery cases
  • Patient ratio estimated at 1:1-2
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
  • Weekend night shifts (Friday and Saturday) required every other week on a rotating 4-week schedule
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Uses Epic EHR
  • Utilizes intracranial pressure monitoring, ventilators, and telemetry equipment
Requirements
  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA certifications only)
  • Skills required include IV starts, telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Additional skills include arterial line management, central line and PICC line care, EVD and lumbar drain management, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted
  • Prior travel nursing experience required, though first-time travelers may be considered with screening
Additional Information
  • Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological ICU patients including stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury cases
  • Manage post-neurosurgical patients including craniotomy recovery and ICP monitoring
  • Administer emergency medications, continuous IV sedation, and procedural sedation with monitoring
  • Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
  • Follow infection prevention protocols including isolation precautions and PPE use
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance deadlines
  • Those outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location; those at extreme distances will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignments after 6 months away from the facility
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible for travel assignments
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
