Position Overview
As a Construction Estimator, you will spearhead preparing, reviewing, and presenting discipline estimates for specific project proposals within the heavy civil industry. In this pivotal role, you will provide expert estimating assistance and guidance to project teams, develop conceptual estimates, and perform comprehensive cost analyses. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing discipline/service estimators, maintaining and updating historical databases, and refining departmental procedures. Additionally, you will offer strategic direction on project/program-level tasks, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all estimating activities.
District Overview
TIC - The Industrial Company is a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation. TIC Marine and Heavy Civil self-performs projects with company-owned equipment for public and private sectors. The markets we operate in include wharf construction and repair, bridge construction, mechanical bridge rehabilitation and retrofitting, foundation pile, erosion control structures, drainage structures, shop fabrication, industrial maintenance and varied concrete work.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed estimates for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • Review owner plans and specifications to gain a thorough understanding of the project requirements and formulate a construction plan that serves as a foundation for the estimate.
  • Examine bid and contract documents along with opinions from the home office legal department to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any potential challenges or unique conditions that may affect the project.
  • Utilize engineering techniques and established company procedures during investigations to ensure reliability and adherence to standards.
  • Assist in design work as necessary, particularly in areas that may exceed your previous experience, and address any significant technical issues that arise during the bid preparation process.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, such as innovations in equipment, methods, and procedures that could impact estimating and project execution.
  • Prepare specialized engineering studies or reports as required for specific bid items or project conditions.
  • Collaborate with owners to address various issues encountered during bid preparation, including design considerations, rates, and schedules.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field.
  • 2 - 5 years of estimating experience in the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Strong interest in preconstruction and estimating.
  • Familiarity with conceptual, hard bid, and self-perform estimating.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented and technically proficient with effective communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic is essential.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient in using computers and experienced with Microsoft Office, On Screen Takeoff, Hard Dollar, Timberline, MC2, or other estimating software programs.
  • Interest in professional development and continued education.
  • Experience with Hard Dollar Estimating Software, LEED AP distinction, and BIM experience is a plus.
