Job description

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.
Job Summary -- Essential Functions/Duties
A Computer Scientist provides software and systems engineering services, generally as a senior member of a work unit or group. This role will focus on the Telemetry Processing (TMProc) system.
Employees will be responsible for the following functions/duties:
  • Act as the system architect for telemetry processing systems, overseeing the overall design, configuration, and sustainment of the software and hardware infrastructure.
  • Manage and sustain the TMProc system, including the Best Telemetry Source Selector (BTSS), Acromatics data processing systems, and various real-time display applications (IADS, LabView).
  • Develop and analyze optimal software-based approaches for complex telemetry processing challenges, including real-time engineering unit (EU) conversion, data switching, and post-flight analysis.
  • Design, develop, and implement software solutions for real-time TM data display, including strip charts, graphs, and tabular data presentations.
  • Manage software/system projects related to the TMProc lifecycle, from capturing customer requirements to integration, testing, and final delivery.
  • Oversee the process for data archiving and retrieval, ensuring the integrity and availability of mission data.
  • Implement and document software designs, ensuring compliance with configuration management and industry standards.
  • Provide work direction and technical guidance to subordinate staff on TMProc system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Interact with customers and project managers to define requirements and ensure the successful execution of test missions.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Requirements -- Education, Technical, and Work Experience
One of the following educational requirements must be met for this position:
  • A bachelor's degree in associated discipline and a minimum of eight years of related experience
  • A master's degree in associated discipline and a minimum of six years of experience
  • A PhD in associated discipline and a minimum of four years of experience

In addition, a Computer Scientist must possess the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise with computer-based systems and applications
  • Excellent programming skills in languages used for job-specific programming tasks
    • C# (Full Stack), C++ (Linux, Windows)
    • .NET (e.g., NET 8/9/10)
    • Fluency in IP transport (TCP, UDP) network communication, socket programming, domains, subnetting, and network design of simple topologies.
    • Verilog for FPGA coding is a plus
    • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and MVVM patterns a plus
  • Experience in the application of industry standard hardware and software design and documentation techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of systems engineering and software development lifecycles
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Good planning/organizational skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.
Travel to remote work locations will be required. Ability to travel long distances on and off pavement, to navigate variable terrains on foot, be out in variable temperatures and conduct physical movements including but not limited to climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting 20-50 lbs.
