JOB DESCRIPTION

The Technical Writer supports the successful delivery of electrical utility capital and operational projects by developing, maintaining, and improving project documentation, procedures, reports, and communication materials. This position works closely with project managers, project controllers, engineers, construction managers, planners, regulatory teams, operations personnel, and executive stakeholders to translate complex technical and project information into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation.


The role is responsible for ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance of project management documents supporting transmission, distribution, substation, generation, and grid modernization projects. The Technical Writer serves as a key resource in standardizing project controls documentation, supporting governance requirements, and improving knowledge management across the organization.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical writing and content management support for creating and maintaining project management related policies, procedures, manuals, white papers, presentations and other documentation as required.
    • Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes and increase efficiency.
    • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of PMO methodologies and best practices.
    • Maintain version control and document management protocols.
  • Participates in meetings or interviews with subject matter experts to obtain technical understanding and clarification of documentation requirements.
  • Coordinates requests for documentation and evidence.
  • Creates spreadsheets that compile large sets of data for evaluation and presentation
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, English, Business Administration, Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 3-7 years of technical writing, project documentation, or project controls experience.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, engineering projects, construction projects, or utility operations preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with transmission, distribution, substation, or utility infrastructure projects is desirable.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced technical writing, editing, and document formatting skills.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project lifecycle management and PMO processes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including:
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams
  • Experience with document management systems and collaboration platforms.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and project management tools such as:
    • Primavera P6, Oracle (Unifier), Power BI, Maximo
