This role is responsible for leading the development, validation, and deployment of structural system designs across product platforms while ensuring alignment with performance, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements. The position provides technical direction, establishes methodologies and standards, and drives structural engineering excellence across new product development and product support activities. The individual also leads and develops a team of engineers, ensuring consistent application of structural engineering principles and continuous advancement of structural capabilities.

Nature & Scope

Reports to the Senior Manager, Subject Matter Expert (SME) Engineering. Operates with broad technical objectives and minimal supervision, leading both technical direction and team execution. Influences structural design decisions across multiple product platforms and collaborates globally with product development, manufacturing, and regional engineering teams. Responsible for high-impact technical decisions, complex problem solving, and development of structural engineering methodologies and tools. The role balances hands-on technical leadership with team development and operational execution responsibilities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Lead structural engineering activities for new product development and major product enhancement programs, ensuring robust and optimized structural solutions.
  • Establish and govern structural design criteria, analysis methodologies, and validation approaches across product platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight of structural analysis, including wind, seismic, transportation, installation, and operational loading conditions.
  • Define and direct structural test programs (load, vibration, seismic), ensuring strong correlation between analytical models and physical test results.
  • Review and approve structural calculations, designs, and documentation to ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements. Sign/stamp certified dwgs/ calculations as required for projects.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of structural analysis tools, modeling techniques, and engineering methods.
  • Solve highly complex structural engineering problems using advanced theories, simulation tools, and innovative approaches.
  • Guide product development teams on structural tradeoffs, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Drive standardization and global consistency of structural design practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • Identify and implement improvements to structural design efficiency, cost reduction, and product quality.
  • Provide expert technical support to global product teams and regional engineering for complex structural issues.
  • Lead and develop a team of structural engineers, including coaching, mentoring, and capability development.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the structural engineering function.
  • Represent BAC in relevant technical forums, conferences, and professional associations as a subject matter expert.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering required. Professional licensure (PE/PEng) required. Advanced degree or preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in structural or mechanical engineering with significant product development experience.
  • Deep expertise in structural analysis, cold-formed steel design, and structural system development.
  • Advanced proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS and Autodesk Simulation, and analytical software such as Mathcad.
  • Strong knowledge of structural testing methods and validation techniques.
  • Extensive understanding of applicable structural codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects and influence cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers and leading technical teams.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including ability to convey complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to integrate analysis, testing, and real-world performance into design decisions.
  • Strong business acumen with understanding of cost, manufacturability, and product performance tradeoffs.
