Description:
Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Store Operations is responsible for supporting the successful operation of Byrne Dairy & Deli convenience stores. This position provides leadership and direction to two Regional Managers and several District Managers to ensure stores consistently achieve company expectations for customer service, sales, profitability, staffing, safety, shrink control, cleanliness, and operational execution.
The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Store Operations and other departments to implement company initiatives, develop strong store leadership teams, identify operational opportunities, and maintain consistent standards throughout all assigned locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  • Supervise, coach, and provide direction to Regional Managers and District Managers.
  • Ensure Regional and District Managers consistently communicate and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular store visits to evaluate customer service, store conditions, food-service operations, staffing, merchandising, and cleanliness.
  • Ensure operational initiatives and company programs are implemented accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities to improve store efficiency, productivity, profitability, and the overall customer experience.
  • Assist with new store openings, store remodels, management transitions, and other special projects.
  • Provide operational coverage and support during emergencies or significant staffing challenges.

Financial Performance and Shrink Control
  • Monitor store sales, labor, overtime, cash overages and shortages, inventory results and other key performance indicators
  • Partner with Regional and District Managers to develop strategies for improving underperforming stores.
  • Analyze inventory and shrink reports to identify trends, operational weaknesses, and potential losses.
  • Ensure stores follow proper procedures for receiving ordering, inventory counts, and cash handling.

Safety and Compliance
  • Promote a strong culture of safety throughout all store locations.
  • Ensure stores comply with company safety policies.
  • Monitor safety inspections, workplace incidents, and food safety standards.
  • Ensure safety concerns are corrected promptly and properly documented.

Management Development
  • Coach and develop Regional Managers and District Managers through regular performance discussions, store visits, goal setting, and follow up
  • Identify high potential employees and create development plans to prepare them for future leadership opportunities.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Training to improve management training and continuing development.

Staffing and Employee Relations
  • Monitor staffing levels, management vacancies, employee turnover, retention, and recruiting needs.
  • Support initiatives designed to improve employee satisfaction, engagement, and retention.
  • Assist Regional and District Managers with resolving employee concerns and conflicts.

Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive leadership experience in convenience stores, retail, grocery or food service, or multi-unit operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing financial performance, labor, inventory, shrink, safety, and operational compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial reports and turn finding into effective action plans.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
  • Ability to travel to store locations as needed
