Steel Fabrication Operations Manager

Location: Gallaway, TN
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $80,000/year; higher salary may be available depending on experience

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication Operations Manager to lead production across two nearby facilities operating on two shifts. This position oversees production supervisors and is accountable for safety, equipment and facility upkeep, productivity, quality, scheduling, and on-time deliveries.

The ideal candidate has a strong structural steel fabrication background, experience with AISC and AWS standards, knowledge of coating requirements, and a hands-on approach to leading production teams and managing multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct daily fabrication activities across both facilities and shifts.
  • Lead approximately 65 employees, with planned growth toward 90, including 5–6 department/shop supervisors.
  • Establish priorities and coordinate production schedules to meet shipping and delivery requirements.
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure proper facility and equipment maintenance.
  • Monitor fabrication efficiency, quality, and workflow across departments.
  • Provide leadership in Receiving/Inventory, CNC Processing, Fabrication/Welding, Paint, and Shipping.
  • Support hiring, employee retention, workforce development, disciplinary matters, and succession planning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production processes, quality, safety, and overall efficiency.
  • Manage multiple complex fabrication projects and anticipate potential production issues.
  • Work closely with operations leadership on scheduling, staffing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of structural steel fabrication experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in fabrication, manufacturing, or production.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1; CWI certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience working in an AISC-certified fabrication shop or environment.
  • Background managing large, heavy, and complex steel fabrication projects.
  • Knowledge of SSPC and ASTM coating requirements.
  • Understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, workflows, and shop practices.
  • Experience managing multiple production departments.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement before they impact production.
  • U.S. work eligibility required.
