Job description

Summary: The District Instructional Technology & STEM Coordinator is a year-round management role in the Office of Teaching and Learning that provides dynamic, hands-on leadership and job-embedded professional development to support the effective use of educational technology and STEM initiatives across all K-12 classrooms. This role focuses on empowering teachers to integrate digital tools, modern pedagogical strategies, and computer science/STEM concepts directly into daily teaching and learning. Working collaboratively with both the academic and IT departments, the coordinator spends significant time in schools providing direct, building- and classroom-level support to enhance student engagement and elevate academic achievement. 

Salary: $82,952 - $101,002 (FY26-27)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instructional Integration & Support: Partners directly with K-12 classroom teachers across all content areas to design and deliver lesson plans that seamlessly integrate hardware, software, web-based tools, and STEM concepts into daily student learning.
  • STEM & Computer Science Support: Serves as the primary instructional champion for STEM, inquiry-based learning, and computer science; helps teachers implement hands-on STEM activities, robotics, coding, and engineering design challenges.
  • Leadership & Continuous Improvement: Collaborates regularly with district leadership, school principals, and department heads to align educational technology and STEM coaching initiatives with overarching district strategic goals. Uses classroom data and feedback from the field to advise leadership on areas for systemic growth, program efficacy, and the continuous improvement of instructional practices.
  • Professional Development Facilitation: Designs, coordinates, and delivers engaging, practical professional learning opportunities (workshops, professional learning communities, and just-in-time support) focused on leveraging technology to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Technology for Learning Advocacy: Researches and recommends emerging educational technologies, digital resources, and STEM tools that actively support diverse learning styles, digital citizenship, and student-centered environments.
  • Resource & Tool Optimization: Assists teachers and school leadership in identifying, deploying, and maximizing the instructional value of district-approved software, hardware, and STEM kits in the classroom.
  • Bridge Between Academics & IT: Collaborates closely with the Technology Department to ensure that classroom instructional needs align with technical infrastructure, digital safety standards, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Impact Documentation: Tracks and reflects on staff engagements, teacher progress, and STEM initiative implementation through accurate records and data collection to continuously refine instructional support strategies.

  • Student Supervision: Responsibility is limited to contributing to the overall general supervision of students on school grounds and maintaining an understanding of rules governing student behavior.

Education and Experience

  • Degree Requirements: A Master's degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field is preferred, with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education or a technology-related area of study required.


  • Teaching Experience: A minimum of three years of verifiable teaching experience is required.


  • Certifications: Must hold a valid Teaching Certification.


  • Endorsements: A 680 Technology Maine Endorsement is preferred

  • Language Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations, and complete graduate-level written assignments.


  • Mathematical & Analytical Skills: Ability to understand, create, analyze, and present school and district data using spreadsheets, charts, and diagrams. Demonstrates knowledge of technology for data analysis, basic numeracy problem-solving, and statistical logic as applied to district demands.


  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define practical problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, deal with a variety of concrete variables, and draw valid conclusions.
     
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with students, staff, peers, parents, and the broader school community.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and sit. Frequently requires the use of hands to operate office and computer equipment, reach with hands and arms, or occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing between 10 to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.


  • Work Environment: The work environment typically features a moderate to loud noise level. Duties must be performed with an active awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies.
