Job description

ABOUT SOTHEBY'S
Established in 1744, Sotheby's promotes access and ownership of exceptional art and luxury objects through auctions, private sales and retail. Our deep expertise across 70 selling categories is supported by a leading technology platform and a global network of specialists spanning 40 countries. Selling categories include Contemporary Art, Modern and Impressionist Art, Old Masters, Chinese Works of Art, Jewelry, Watches, Wine and Spirits and Design, as well as collectible cars and real estate through RM Sotheby's and Concierge. Sotheby's Financial Services is a leading art lender and provides capital solutions for collectors around the world, having originated more than $12 billion in loans since its inception. Sotheby's new global headquarters is now open at the iconic Breuer building at 945 Madison Avenue in New York City.
THE ROLE
Sotheby's continues to enhance its clients' experience by broadening its suite of offerings and we are also investing in new initiatives that support audience acquisition and strategic growth. This role will sit at the center of a high-growth mandate, consolidating independent global initiatives under the umbrella of Sotheby's Development Advisors (SDA), including but not limited to: real estate development and management projects; art and luxury storage offerings; hospitality and brand licensing; expanding real estate sales platforms and related technology development; advancing educational partnerships; growing F&B and event space revenue at our flagship locations; and driving net new growth initiatives, both organically and through acquisition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluate investments and develop capital structures for the development of global luxury properties
  • Structure complex partnership deals with developers and hospitality groups using benefit sharing models to expand the brand ecosystem
  • Develop financial models that support the overall strategic growth plan and maximize return on investment across different project stages in each business line within the SDA portfolio
  • Leverage market and industry analysis to size opportunities and translate insights into actionable strategic initiatives and board-level recommendations
  • Build business cases for brand deals and partnerships, including joint ventures
  • Partner with the tech and business intelligence teams on leveraging data to build products, inform decision-making and drive growth across the SDA business portfolio
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Sotheby's to drive growth across SDA projects, including global real estate, marketing, communications, finance, HR, legal, fine art, luxury, and classic cars
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
  • 10+ years of experience in private equity, investment banking, or strategic finance within the luxury, real estate or hospitality sectors
  • Proven track record of structuring complex international fund vehicles and multi-party development deals
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and the ability to translate consumer data into long-term revenue projections
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high-level stakeholders across diverse business units, ranging from fine art and luxury to education and residential real estate
  • Deep understanding of capital markets and the mechanics of benefit sharing models in a co-development context
  • Exceptional communication skills for presenting business cases that balance brand preservation with aggressive earnings growth
