ROLE SUMMARY

The Lab Technician supports day-to-day laboratory operations with a primary focus on hydrocarbon extraction, refinement, and distillation processes. Responsibilities include intaking raw materials, setting up and operating equipment, managing batch records, maintaining facility and equipment cleanliness, and ensuring all tasks follow SOPs, GMP standards, and safety protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

All candidates must be able to work in an environment with a safety culture. Extended periods of standing, bending, reaching, and high dexterity functions are required. Extraction, Refinement & Distillation

Perform all hydrocarbon extraction processing steps including material preparation, system operation, solvent recovery, and post-processing.

Operate distillation equipment for refinement of extracted oils.

Conduct filtration, solvent removal, terpene collection, and refinement processes.

Execute scheduled batches and complete batch records.

Monitor extraction parameters, temperatures, pressures, and yields.

Data, Documentation & Compliance

Organize and maintain data related to extraction and distillation.

Maintain seed-to-sale tracking accuracy.

Follow GMP-aligned SOPs and improve workflow documentation.

Assist with forecasting material needs and potency/yield analysis.

Safety & Equipment Maintenance

Maintain strict safety and injury-prevention focus.

Handle hazardous waste properly.

Keep lab equipment and workspaces clean and organized.

Inspect and maintain extraction and distillation equipment.

Inventory & Material Handling

Maintain inventory of raw materials, solvents, supplies, equipment, and finished goods.

Receive, store, and label materials per SOPs.

Track solvent use, recovery, and replenishment.

Assist in training new technicians.

Support the Tech 2 and Laboratory Manager in workflow improvements.

Communicate effectively across departments.

QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of extraction, distillation, or related lab experience.

Hydrocarbon extraction experience preferred.

Familiarity with GMP compliance.

Strong math, data, and computer skills.

Knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and hazardous materials.

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related field preferred, but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to individually lift up to 50 lbs.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Experience with analytical processes, botanical or biologic processes preferred.

Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as an Extraction Technician or in a related role within the botanical extraction industry.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field required or comparable experience

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Per state law, must be at least 21 years of age.

Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.

Must pass a drug screening
