Job description

This is the kind of role patent professionals talk about for the rest of their careers.
You won't inherit a slow-moving legal department buried in layers of review. You'll help build one of the most ambitious biotechnology patent operations being assembled anywhere today.
You'll protect discoveries across molecular hydrogen therapy, microbiome science, advanced formulations, and future-facing biologic innovation. Your work could help accelerate inventions designed to improve millions of lives around the world.
You'll operate with rare ownership. Your judgment. Your signature. Your prosecution strategy. Your name on the filings.
You'll work beside an AI-powered invention engine moving at extraordinary speed while still owning the human expertise that matters most. You'll help reshape the future of how breakthrough scientific discoveries move from concept to protected intellectual property.
This is not a maintenance role. It is a chance to help set a new standard for modern biotech patent prosecution.
Your next 5 minutes could land you in our top 5% shortlist - click Apply to start your application (a short, simple step to put you in the running).
Registered USPTO Patent Agent - Biotechnology Domain
ROLE SNAPSHOT -
  • Location/Schedule: Remote
  • Purpose: Own end-to-end biotechnology patent prosecution for one of Mercola Health Sciences' highest-priority technical domains.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES -
  • Review, redline, prosecute, sign, and file AI-drafted patent applications.
  • Own biotechnology-domain prosecution across hydrogen therapy, microbiome modulation, nutraceutical formulations, and adjacent biologic or biochemistry claims.
  • File provisionals, non-provisionals, PCT applications, and continuations through USPTO Patent Center.
  • Respond to office actions involving enablement, written description, prior art, claim amendments, and arguments.
  • Conduct examiner interviews when strategically useful.
  • Identify claim-scope issues, missing support, prior-art blind spots, and mechanism-of-action overreach.
  • Feed redline patterns and rejection insights back into the Patent Engine.
  • Coordinate with scientists, formulators, and microbiologists to convert lab results into prosecutable claim sets.

MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS.
  • Active USPTO Patent Bar registration in good standing.
  • Minimum 4 years of patent prosecution experience post-registration.
  • Minimum 50 patent applications drafted, prosecuted, or substantively responded to in biotech, pharma, or life sciences.
  • BS minimum in a relevant life sciences field; MS or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Strong experience with enablement and written-description strategy.
  • Ability to operate without attorney supervision and sign filings under your own authority.
  • Comfort with AI-augmented patent drafting workflows.
  • Comfort in a small in-house team rather than a large-firm partnership track.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
  • Prior in-house experience at a major pharma or biotech IP group.
  • Prior patent-agent track experience at a top patent prosecution firm.
  • Direct experience with hydrogen therapy, microbiome, or nutraceutical patenting.
  • Working knowledge of FDA and FTC adjacency.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-based drafting tools in production prosecution.

WHAT WE OFFER.
  • High-ownership in-house patent prosecution work.
  • A rare opportunity to help build a high-velocity patent operation.
  • Domain ownership in one of the organization's highest-priority technical areas.
  • Direct exposure to scientific inventors and founder-level review.
  • A small, focused production-tier patent team.

Honest Challenge.
This role is built for high-output patent professionals who can move quickly, redline AI-drafted applications with precision, defend biotechnology claims, and operate independently without attorney supervision.
