Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with homeowners to educate and consult on energy solutions.

  • Manage pipeline, follow up with leads, and develop proposals and client presentations.

  • Engage in outreach activities such as networking, outbound communication, and community involvement to generate and nurture leads.

Job description

You may have the impression that selling Solar involves knocking on doors, pushing contracts, and trying to pressure homeowners into buying solar systems they don't need, want, or fully understand. In fact, if you've been around more than a decade, you've probably had solar companies knock on your own door attempting to sell services that way.
Churn-and-burn door knocking and other high-pressure sales tactics can trade your credibility as a sales professional for a quick paycheck. The numbers fade; the bad name sticks, and it can follow you long after the company has gone under.
That's not how Sandbox+ operates.
  • We're in it for the long haul.
  • We're relational.
  • We practice, embody and empower self-sufficiency
  • We come together as a team to be faster, smarter, and stronger.
  • We bring innovative solutions to complicated challenges.
  • And we have a hell of a lot of fun doing it.

Sandbox + is a movement of energy independence professionals relentlessly "Empowering the world to be self-sufficient."
We have been around for 11 years, with deeply established roots in Fort Collins, and the Northern Colorado communities. This is our home, and we were proud to be named as one of 2025's Colorado Companies to Watch. In fact, we are flourishing in a way that many in this industry can't. We've won many local, state, and national awards from organizations such as NoCO Style, Bizwest, Nextdoor, Denver Business Journal, Solar Power World, and the International Electrical Contractors Association. We owe that to the dedication and grit of our founder and CEO, Ian Skor, and our amazing team of expeditioners. We climb mountains others won't, in a way that others can't, and you won't find more determined, dedicated, and innovative people to work with. Interested yet?

So about the role...
We have an opening in sales that's a little different from many solar sales positions - our Solar Energy Consultant. Since Sandbox+ focuses heavily on customer experience, referrals, operational quality, and long-term trust, this role is much more relationship-driven and consultative than the stereotypical high-pressure solar sales environment many people picture. In fact, solar energy may not be the only thing you will be selling.
Yes, pipeline management, outbound communication, networking, lead follow-up, and community involvement are all part of the role. But we're looking for someone who can build relationships, communicate clearly, educate customers, represent Sandbox+ professionally, and help homeowners optimize their energy ecosystem. Some of what you will be offering:
  • Solar Energy Solutions
  • Heat pumps
  • HVAC installation
  • Battery & charging systems
  • Service and maintenance packages

For this role, you'd have to have either:
A background in solar, home energy, or construction / roofing related sales
Or
HVAC Sales a Comfort Advisor, home heating, or related industries.
Bonus points for those who have both!
But either way, the successful candidate will have a curiosity for our style and values and a desire to not only be part of what we're building, but to learn how we're building. And the ability to cultivate long-term relationships with homeowners and speak confidently about energy systems, utility savings, incentives, rebates, payback periods, and long-term value.
You'd likely be successful here if you are good at
  • Building strong long-term customer relationships
  • Managing your pipeline and followup / follow-through effectively
  • Producing measurable results not just lipservice
  • Being self-sufficient in developing and managing your own proposals and client presentations
  • Engaging with the sales team in a collaborative, not competitive way
  • Anticipating challenges, overcoming barriers, and bringing innovative, thoughtful solutions

Heres what we require at a minimum
  • Valid Drivers License with a clean driving record (no major violations in the past 3 years)
  • 1-3 years of direct sales experience in home energy, hvac, or a related field
  • Excel, system design, presentation, and proposal software experience

If you've got a Bachelors Degree thats a huge bonus for us
This will not be the right opportunity for those who:
  • Are used to retail, quick, one-time transactions behind a counter and have never built ongoing, long-term relationships with clients.
  • Are uncomfortable with outreach, outbound calling, going to networking events, or initiating conversations with strangers.
  • Skip follow-ups, drop the ball, leave emails unanswered, or fail to loop back with clients or teammates.
  • Lack a strong presence, aren't confident, articulate, and professional enough to stand out during in-home visits and industry events.
  • Hate using software, resist using proposal tools, CRMS, basic sales tech, and view data entry as a waste of time.
  • Wait to be told what to do, if you lack personal drive, move slowly, or need a manager constantly pushing you to find the next deal.
  • Get easily overwhelmed, struggle to stay organized when juggling multiple active deals and clients at the exact same time.
  • Have a big ego, can't take feedback, refuse to learn from others, or put your own pride ahead of the team's success.

Lets get to the pay
A great relationship-builder who consistently develops trust, manages their pipeline well, and closes quality business can build a substantial income upwards of $200,000 (base + commission) while growing into even larger opportunities within Sandbox+.
A background check will be required for this role.
We estimate this job will be filled by September 30th, but we may extend it as needed.
