Job description

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Vice President to join the Cyber, Technology and Information Security (CTIS) Risk Coverage team, focused on digital assets. This role provides independent oversight of risks across the Firm's digital asset ecosystem, including crypto trading platforms, custody solutions, and distributed ledger infrastructure. It covers key risk areas such as private key management, wallet security, smart contract risk, blockchain integrity, third-party dependencies, and transaction monitoring. The candidate will assess control effectiveness, challenge risk decisions, and influence remediation strategies across business and technology stakeholders.
The role supports broader non-financial risk initiatives related to digital assets across the firm and offers the opportunity to shape the Firm's approach to managing risks in a rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.
What you'll do in the role:
  • Drive independent reviews of digital asset risk exposures across custody, trading, blockchain infrastructure, tokenized assets and supporting platforms
  • Provide subject matter expertise and independent oversight of key digital asset risk areas, including private key and wallet security, smart contract vulnerabilities, blockchain infrastructure resilience, third-party dependencies, and transaction monitoring risks
  • Identify and escalate material control gaps impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability to senior management / governance forums
  • Improve risk visibility through enhanced metrics, reporting, and scenario analysis
  • Influence business and technology leaders on remediation priorities and risk acceptance decisions
  • Participate in preparation for regular regulatory meetings and responses to regulatory queries
  • Build and maintain strong positive relationships with the existing cyber and information security risk community specifically within the digital asset ecosystem teams, becoming a trusted advisor
  • Build and maintain strong engagement with 2nd line colleagues who cover Business Units and Infrastructure Groups, assessing impact of cybersecurity risks on business and support processes to drive an integrated risk management response
  • Report on evolving and emerging technology, security risk issues as well as internal and external incidents related to the digital asset ecosystem
  • Support NFR management and technology and business stakeholders in the delivery of the Firm's regulatory obligations relating to CTIS risk management of digital assets and distributed ledger technologies
  • Coach and train resources within the NFR CTIS team

What you'll bring to the role:
  • Degree in Computer Science or Cyber / Information Security (preferable but not essential)
  • 5+ years' worth of technology and/or security risk related work experience, preferably in the financial services industry working with digital assets
  • Strong understanding of blockchain and other Web3 activities including crypto trading, wallet infrastructure, asset tokenization, custody, and digital identity, as well as associated rules and regulations
  • Experience assessing or managing risks related to digital assets, including private key and wallet security, smart contract vulnerabilities, blockchain infrastructure, third-party dependencies, and transaction monitoring
  • Experience in Technology/Security Risk Management and/or Technology/Security Audit including digital assets and/or distributed ledger technologies is a plus
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CISM, CISA, CISSP) are a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to tailor communication to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
