As of Jul 18, 2026, the average hourly pay for manager scribe in Alabama is $17.62, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $13.75 and $21.78 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Will scribes be replaced by AI?

Scribes, including those in medical or legal settings, perform tasks that require understanding context and nuanced communication, which AI currently cannot fully replicate. While AI tools can assist with documentation and data entry, human scribes are still essential for accuracy, judgment, and complex interactions. The role may evolve to include oversight of AI-generated content, but complete replacement is unlikely in the near term.

Is it hard to get hired as a scribe?

Getting hired as a medical scribe can be competitive, as it often requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and familiarity with medical terminology. Many employers prefer candidates with some healthcare or administrative experience and may require training or certification before employment.

Are scribes well paid?

Scribes, including medical scribes, typically earn an hourly wage that varies by location and experience, with median pay around $12 to $15 per hour. Experienced medical scribes or those working in specialized settings can earn higher wages, and some may receive benefits or bonuses depending on the employer. Overall, pay is generally considered moderate compared to other healthcare support roles.

How does a Manager Scribe balance administrative duties with leading a team of scribes in a clinical setting?

A Manager Scribe typically divides their time between overseeing the daily operations of the scribe team—such as scheduling, training, and performance reviews—and ensuring accurate and timely documentation of clinical encounters. This role requires strong organizational skills to manage workflow, while also fostering communication and collaboration among scribes and healthcare providers. Manager Scribes often serve as the primary liaison between medical staff and the scribe team, addressing challenges such as adapting to new documentation protocols or technology updates. Balancing these responsibilities effectively helps maintain high-quality patient records and supports the professional growth of the scribe team.

Who gets paid more, MA or scribe?

Medical assistants (MAs) generally earn higher wages than scribes due to their broader responsibilities, clinical duties, and required certifications. MAs often have formal training or certification programs, which can influence salary levels, while scribes typically focus on documentation and may not require formal medical training. Salary differences can vary based on location, experience, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Scribe, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Scribe, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in documentation or medical transcription, often supported by a relevant degree and prior scribe experience. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation software is typically required, along with possible certifications in medical scribing. Outstanding communication, leadership, and time-management abilities help a Manager Scribe coordinate teams and ensure accurate, timely documentation. These skills are vital to maintaining high standards of clinical documentation, team efficiency, and compliance in healthcare settings.

What is a Manager Scribe and what do they do?

A Manager Scribe is a professional who oversees and manages a team of scribes, often in a medical or business setting. Their primary responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely documentation, training new scribes, monitoring workflow, and liaising between scribes and other staff members. They may also handle scheduling, performance evaluations, and quality control for documentation. The Manager Scribe plays a crucial role in maintaining efficient operations and supporting the team in delivering high-quality records.
