Job description

We are seeking a Safety Manager to join our team in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees, contractors, and visitors by overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety programs and protocols. The Safety Manager will work closely with management and staff to promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Essential Job Duties
  •  Safety Program Development amp; Management:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures for all aspects of manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, industry standards, and company safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Conduct investigation after any incident with follow-up on corrective action
  • Oversee monthly Safety Committee
  •  Training amp; Education:
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hires, to ensure understanding and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Lead safety drills, emergency response training, and other proactive safety initiatives.
  •  Incident Investigation amp; Reporting:
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records of safety-related incidents and inspections.
  • Report on safety performance, including trends, metrics, and recommendations for improvement to senior management.
  •  Compliance amp; Risk Management:
  • Monitor safety compliance across all areas of the plant, ensuring all workers adhere to safety regulations and practices.
  • Maintain current knowledge of safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies during safety audits and inspections.
  • Complete reporting to EPA and other government entities
  • Up to date permit renewals
  •  Continuous Improvement:
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices across all departments.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance worker engagement in safety activities and foster a proactive approach to safety management.
2.Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional - CSP, Associate Safety Professional - ASP) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management within a heavy industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and risk management practices.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful safety programs and reducing incident rates.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
3.Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • Warehouse and scrap yard environment
  • Exposed to outdoor elements, including heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, odor and noise
  • Exposed to large mobile equipment, internal and external traffic
  • Dirt Roads
  • Concrete floors and driveways
  • Required common PPE, Safety Shoes, Glasses, Hearing Protection, Hard Hat
  • Sounds, potentially high noise levels
  • Frequent contact with others
4.Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit, bend, lift and walk on a regular basis
  • Must be able to use computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, key-pad on a regular basis
  • Must be able to utilize telephone and two way-radio
  • Must be able to walk and stand 95% of the day
5.Additional Information:
  • The role may require occasional travel or work outside of normal hours for emergency response, training, or inspections.
  • The position requires hands-on involvement in plant operations and close collaboration with production and maintenance teams.
