Job description

RK&K is currently hiring an ITS Inspector to join our CEI team in Central Florida. This position is in our Construction Management group which oversees the contractor's operations on roadway and bridge construction projects.
Essential Functions
  • Monitor and verify the correct installation of components like traffic signals, signs, and fiber optics
  • Ensure that all work is completed in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards and specifications
  • Review and approve as-built documentation from contractors, including technical data and changes to plans
  • Perform or oversee the testing of ITS equipment, such as controller operation and fiber optic cable testing
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, progress, and any issues that arise
  • Work with FDOT project managers, contractors, and other consultants to resolve issues and ensure project success

Required Skills and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 2 years Construction Engineering and Inspection experience
  • Proficiency in areas like fiber optics, controller operation and testing, and other ITS components
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Previous roadway inspection experience

Physical Demands:
This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
