About This Role

The Uncrewed Land and Air Systems team in Hunt Valley is seeking a passionate and skilled Systems Engineer to join our team to work on innovative products in our ground robotics and air domains. Our team is engaged in multiple cutting-edge development programs for defense applications, and we are looking for engineers who are eager to apply a diverse set of technologies and skills to create indispensable robotic solutions. This interdisciplinary role involves supporting the full life cycle development of our products, including new product development, product upgrades, payload design, integration and test, and fielding solutions for military and commercial customers. The ideal candidate will have experience in hardware and/or software integration, managing requirements derivation and allocation, and working successfully within a collaborative team environment. A strong desire to take ownership of design efforts to ensure the integration of new technology into our vehicles is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Design and Development:
    • Lead full-lifecycle engineering design and development activities on established and disruptive new products.
    • Work across engineering disciplines to develop conceptual designs that solve complex problems.
    • Perform requirements analysis and derivation to understand customer needs.
    • Develop architecture models utilizing SysML to support requirements development and derivation.
    • Use requirements management and test tools to decompose program requirements.
       
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE):
    • Develop and maintain system models using MBSE methodologies and tools.
    • Utilize SysML for creating and managing system architecture models.
    • Integrate MBSE practices into the overall systems engineering process to improve design, analysis, and verification activities.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure MBSE models accurately represent system requirements and design.
       
  • Systems Integration and Testing:
    • Lead hands-on integration of components and subsystems into Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and/or Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs).
    • Develop integration test plans and procedures to verify product integration.
    • Perform analysis of data extracted from testing.
    • Define methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verifying systems, subsystems, and work products against their requirements.
       
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Prepare and present systems engineering work products to internal review teams and external customers at program milestone reviews.
    • Interact daily with technical leads, program managers, planners, technicians, and other engineers.
    • Collaborate with others within the workgroup, with other departments, and with customers.
        
  • Project Management and Technical Direction:
    • Participate in an Integrated Product Team to design new capabilities based on evaluation of all necessary development and operational considerations.
    • Provide technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of specific components of complex hardware/software systems.
    • Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems that are compatible with the defined system architecture(s)
    • Assist with the development of system requirements, functional requirements, and allocation of the same to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.
       

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 6 years of related experience (systems or test engineering preferred)
      OR
    • Master's Degree in Engineering with 2 year(s) of related experience.
       
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with hardware and/or software integration, managing requirements derivation and allocation, or architecture design.
    • Experience with systems engineering, MBSE, and modeling software.
    • Experience with requirements management and analysis.
    • Experience with a broad array of engineering tools/languages including MATLAB Simulink, Cameo/No Magic Products, JIRA, and/or SysML.
    • Experience documenting logical or physical designs using drawing tools (e.g., Visio, PowerPoint, Cameo/MagicDraw) to depict systems, subsystems, interfaces, components, and communications.
    • Experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment is preferred.
    • Experience or certifications in Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) (i.e., OCSMP Certification) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Effective and efficient writing and presentation skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.
    • Demonstrated self-starter with organizational, planning, and follow-up skills.
    • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
       
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to travel up to 25%.
    • Active Secret Clearance preferred; Secret Clearance eligibility required.
