Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Dealing with Complexity, Informing Others, Leadership, Supervision, Hardware Specifications, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, Product Development, Presenting Technical Information, CAD, CAD/CAM Circuit Design. The Controls Engineer designs, develops, and starts up industrial control systems used for automating manufacturing equipment in a production environment. The individual is responsible for the startup and troubleshooting of equipment. The preferred candidate will design and create control diagrams, and electrical prints and use these to write original PLC code. This individual will write complete project scopes, designs and perform test procedures and be responsible for supervising contractors onsite.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Design and program appropriate Human Machine Interface (HMI).
  • Responsibilities include budgeting, planning, and safety.
  • Review projects and interact with Engineering Department personnel.
  • Will be required to support Executive Management by providing schedules, quotes, and technical information for current and future projects.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • May be required to work weekends and holidays based upon business needs.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and protocols.
  • Follow Lean manufacturing guidelines.
  • Represent Sunshine Minting with the highest standard of professional conduct when interacting with suppliers and customers.
  • Has the ability to use a multi meter to diagnose electrical and or wiring problems.
  • Represent Sunshine Minting with the highest standard of professional conduct when interacting with employees and the community.
  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits.
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics.
  • Create, maintain and review drawing packages for conveyor, robot and process systems.
  • Responsible for the completeness of hardware design prior to build, ensuring reduced debug project phases
  • Provide accurate Bill of Materials and create other reports as part of design, adhering specifications.
  • Implement OSHA compliant control and safety systems for safeguarding robots, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing.
  • Define and maintain the hardware and controls equipment standards and introduce new hardware
  • Manage suppliers costs and accurate lead times.
  • Ensure that all equipment, processes and methodologies comply with applicable standards, company policy and all Health and Safety Laws, Acts, Regulations and Codes
  • Follow and promote company core values

REQUIREMENTS:
  • 2-3 years of manufacturing engineer experience
  • Experience with six-sigma and/or lean manufacturing environment
  • ISO experience preferred
  • Project management experience
  • BSc Electrical Engineering (or equivalent - Majors in: Controls Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, etc.).
  • Experience as a hands-on Controls Hardware Designer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
