SJA Seeks a full-time STEM Lab Director and Engineering Teacherย to lead its state-of-the-art STEM Lab, teach several engineering courses, and support hands-on, project-based learning across campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to design and implement meaningful STEM, engineering, design, and fabrication projects
  • Teach and support students in engineering, coding, robotics, electronics, digital design, prototyping, and problem-solving
  • Lead cross-curricular projects that connect STEM with subjects such as math, science, humanities, world languages, media arts, entrepreneurship, and the arts
  • Train faculty and students on STEM Lab equipment, software, safety procedures, and project workflows
  • Support student projects, science fair work, independent design work, robotics, coding, and classroom-based engineering activities
  • Manage and document multiple concurrent projects, lab usage, equipment needs, and project timelines
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and manage lab equipment, tools, supplies, software, and budget
  • Design and fabricate materials for classroom instruction, campus improvement, admissions, advancement, and school/community events
  • Develop written and video training materials for software, equipment, and lab processes
  • Coordinate or support STEM-related camps, outreach programs, open houses, Maker Faire participation, and other school events
  • Moderate Girls Who Code and support Hour of Code programming
  • Mentor and organize the FRC Robotics team, including training, competitions, build days, recruitment, and grant support

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, dye sublimation, vacuum forming, electronics, soldering, and shop/power tools
  • Knowledge of programs and platforms such as Python, Java, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Unity, Tinkercad, Inkscape, Illustrator, Inventor, Rhino, Meshmixer, or similar tools
  • Strong project management, communication, collaboration, organization, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to support both teachers and students in hands-on, interdisciplinary STEM learning
  • Comfort managing a busy makerspace environment serving large numbers of students and faculty
  • Creative, flexible, student-centered approach and belief that all students can learn STEM

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; masterโ€™s degree preferred
  • At least three years of relevant experience preferred
  • Background in STEM education, engineering, computer science, makerspace management, digital fabrication, or a related field preferred
  • Commitment to girlsโ€™ education, innovation, collaboration, and hands-on learning
