ABOUT US
Okland is a commercial general contractor and construction management company with more than 1,300 team members, delivering complex projects across healthcare, semiconductor, higher education, sports, hospitality, and other specialized markets. Founded in 1918 in Salt Lake City, we have grown for more than a century and operate throughout Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.
What Makes Okland Different?
We Create Remarkable Experiences
We believe how we build is just as important as what we build, and we approach every relationship with care. From clients and trade partners to team members and communities, we focus on creating experiences that earn trust.
We Share Success
Okland combines the stability of family ownership with employee ownership through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan. This unique structure provides the long-term perspective, and values-driven leadership that have guided our company for generations, while giving team members the opportunity to share the success they help create.
We Build Better Together
Our culture is rooted in accountability, humility, and excellence. We challenge the status quo, empower problem-solving, and trust our teams to take ownership and act. We learn from one another and work toward shared goals to deliver meaningful work with lasting impact. We invest in the next generation of construction talent through apprenticeships, internships, and scholarships for our communities. By expanding access for women, underrepresented groups, and families of our craft workforce who are first-generation college students, we strengthen the future of construction.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
If you’re a strategic, detail-oriented risk professional who thrives on balancing financial insight with operational awareness, this role is for you. As Risk Director, you’ll lead the enterprise-wide risk management program — from insurance strategy and claims oversight to safety alignment and contract risk allocation. You’ll be a trusted advisor to Finance, Legal, and Operations, helping Okland proactively identify, mitigate, and manage risks across all areas of the business. This is a high-impact role for someone who loves building structure, shaping policy, and driving results that protect both people and performance.

- Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure appropriate risk transfer, coverage, and contractual compliance.
- Oversee COI compliance, OCIP/CCIP enrollment, and relationships with brokers, insurers, and third-party administrators.
Claims & Incident Management
- Manage insurance claims from incident through resolution, coordinating with adjusters, brokers, insurers, field teams, and Legal.
- Ensure timely incident documentation, claim preparation, escalation, and resolution of high-value or disputed claims.
Operational Risk Oversight
- Identify, quantify, and monitor risks across safety, project delivery, subcontractor performance, and financial exposure.
- Develop lessons learned and data-driven risk reduction initiatives with Safety and Operations.
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead enterprise emergency preparedness, business continuity, and crisis response efforts.
- Establish KPIs and dashboards to identify risk trends and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Integrate risk strategy into business planning while promoting a proactive, risk-aware culture across the organization.
YOU’RE READY FOR THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE
- A bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive risk management experience within the construction or real estate development industry.
- Deep knowledge of insurance programs relevant to large-scale commercial construction.
- Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, claims management, and risk control practices.
- Professional designations such as ARM, CPCU, or CRIS.
- Experience implementing or managing OCIP/CCIP programs.
- Knowledge of construction contracts (AIA, ConsensusDocs).
- Experience with risk analytics or insurance management systems.
