Position Summary
Clearwater Analytics is seeking an experienced Employment Attorney to join its in-house Legal team. This senior-level role will serve as a primary legal advisor on all employment-related matters across the organization, partnering closely with HR, executive leadership, and business units to navigate complex labor and employment issues in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment. The ideal candidate brings deep substantive expertise, sound judgment, and a practical, business-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
  • Advise HR and management on a broad range of employment law matters including hiring, performance management, leaves of absence, accommodations, separations, and reductions in force
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, offer letters, separation and severance agreements, NDAs, and independent contractor agreements
  • Develop, update, and implement employment policies, handbooks, and compliance and training programs to ensure legal compliance and best practices
  • Manage and oversee employment-related litigation, arbitration, and agency charges (EEOC, NLRB, state agencies), including coordination with outside counsel
  • Lead internal investigations into employee complaints, including allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace misconduct
  • Monitor and advise on federal, state, and local employment law developments and assess impact on company practices across multiple jurisdictions
  • Partner with People Operations on compensation, benefits, and equity plan matters, ensuring compliance with applicable wage and hour laws
  • Support M&A due diligence and integration activities from an employment law perspective
  • Provide training and guidance to HR business partners and managers on employment law topics and risk mitigation strategies
  • Contribute to the broader Legal team on cross-functional projects and company-wide initiatives

Qualifications
Required
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
  • 8+ years of employment law experience, with significant in-house counsel experience or a combination of law firm and in-house roles
  • Deep expertise in federal and state employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, and state equivalents)
  • Demonstrated experience managing employment litigation and agency proceedings
  • Experience conducting and overseeing workplace investigations
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a variety of employment-related agreements
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and provide clear, actionable guidance in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization

Preferred
  • Experience in the technology, financial services, or SaaS industry
  • Familiarity with employment law considerations in international jurisdictions (UK, India, EU, Hong Kong)
  • Experience supporting M&A transactions from an employment law perspective
  • Background advising on equity compensation and executive employment arrangements

Washington, DC: $138,000 - $193,200
This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, other job-related qualifications/skills, and geographic location (to account for comparative cost of living). The Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time.
